I've been a fan of the old Playmates 4.5" line for many years, and made some customs recently. They're work in progress at this point, and I'd love to build toward a 4.5" NCC-1701 in the future...

Here's a Classic Romulan Bird Of Prey. Not too much work to do on this one...

Nice Guardian. I assume it isn't finished. Are you going to do the ruins around it?

Nice. Any reason you didn't make the base bigger?

A couple reasons. Often when I design a playset or vehicle, I'll try to imagine what the original company would have given us. Remember the Engineering playset from Playmates? This custom Guardian sports a base almost twice as large. I think it's large enough, especially for the 4.5" scale. I also think it's pretty much exactly what playmates would have produced, had they ever gotten around to making Classic Star Trek playsets.
The other reason is, I sculpted it with the intention of molding it in silicone and casting copies out of plastic, so it's good to keep production costs down.

I guess it is just me, I would have liked to see the columns in the background framing it.

I agree. But, you can't have it all, unless you care to pick up this little beauty...

I can't see Ebay at work, firewall, but this is why I like 1/18 scale so much, you can create much larger playsets. I had an idea for an Enterprise playset like the Kenner Death Star with the bridge on top, sickbay and the transporter room in the middle, engineering on the bottom, and a fold out plate for the hanger bay, all with a turbolift to connect it. Then Playmates changed the scale and made my idea no longer cost effective.
