#90528 Redshirt's new Playmates customs - Eddington, Vic, and others

Posted by Redshirt#7 on 10 August 2017 - 10:03 AM

I hope everyone doesn't mind, but I decided to start a new topic for my customs, I've progressed (I hope!) a lot from my earlier customs, god, some of those are beyond awful, I mean, shaving Riker with a craft knife?!  Crazy.

So I've decided, for the most part, to put those behind me, draw a line, and start fresh! I'll retrofit the salvageable ones, redo the ones that are beyond hope, and of course, do some new ones! Got back into Trek and Playmates after a long absence, forgot how much I loved those figures, and how much I loved being here. So I'm back, and without further ado, my first few:

The one, the only, the legend..

35674480583_8a1e14e595.jpg
Vic Fontaine! Jazz has always been my first musical love, since I was a kid, I've hero worshiped Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jnr, Tony Bennett, Nat King Cole, Ella Fitgerald.., I'm sure you get the idea! (Dean's always been my favorite singer) So you can imagine my head literally imploded when James Darren strolled onto DS9, he instantly became one of my favorite characters. Vic as a figure was a must, I made one before but, let's forget about that one! I kept the head, but redid the body. Hands need another coat of paint though (is it just me, or did anyone else feel that a Playmates 2-pack of Vic and Odo or Sisko in a Tux would've made an awesome DS9 Holosuite two pack?)

Talking of, why the hell didn't they make..?

36345703951_2d33b801a2.jpg
Eddington! I mean, c'mon, he was even active during the heyday of Playmates, would've made a nice companion piece to DS9 Worf and S4 Sisko, he's begging to be given neo green starfleet accessories! But alas, mutated Tom Paris was obviously a better idea  Ready to stab you in the back and run off with your industrial replicators! Another favorite character, I'm not sure.., I'm thinking maybe lighten the hair a bit? What does everyone else think?

Moving aside from DS9, I was thinking, I've got Carey, Seska, Vorik's easy enough, but what about..?

35674006003_b79967e314.jpg
Lt Ayala! Chakotay's right hand Maquis man, Mr background extra for 123 Voyager's, tactical relief officer for Tuvok, occasionally ops, once got the helm and the captain's chair, always guarding the brig, and best of all, Mr Maquis shoulder pads! (If you remember his costume, you'll understand). Very happy with this one, any guesses as to who I used as the base for the head?

And the last two,

36314596842_4f8533168d.jpg
Space suit Chekov! Not much to say, other than his nose is squished against the glass!  Easy headswap from some spares. And finally..

35647730674_0c66f60575.jpg
Another redo, this time, Cal Hudson from the incredible DS9 two parter, the Maquis! After Eddington I decided to return to this old custom, I'm not sure though.., I redid the eyes, and eyebrows, any suggestions to make him look more Cal Hudson-ish?

Any feedback, as always, is greatly appreciated!

#82829 Thunderbirds turns 50 today

Posted by Redshirt#7 on 30 September 2015 - 02:52 AM

While I realise it's a Star Trek forum, I know a few members around are fans, so I thought I'd post a celebratory topic.

Today, the supermarionation series "Thunderbirds", telling the story of a family run rescue organisation in 2065, turns 50 today, having being first broadcast on the 30th September, 1965. Lots of new stuff is going on for the 50th, new books such as the Vault (in the same vein as the Trek one, and as good personally) and a re-release of a cross section book, new toys coming from Corgi, a special (and somewhat elusive) magazine, loads of miscellaneous goods (chess, postcards etc), and moreover, three new, classic, episodes!

For those that aren't aware, back in 65 they got the original cast to do three, fifteen minute vinyl records, brand new stories, but audio only. Enter Stephen La Riviere and his team in July this year, the folks behind the documentary "Made In Supermarionation". They proposed to make footage, 100% authentic as possible, to the vinyl records.

£218,412 later, via 3,378 backers on Kickstarter, and against the odds, they started production, and today, the intro for one of the new episodes, "The Abominable Snowman", has been released by them:

So I have to ask to the fans here, what was your favourite scene, or memory you have of Thunderbirds?

For me, it's a close call between the atomic airliner Fireflash landing on the Elevators Cars, road builder Eddie Houseman and his explosives tractor being lifted from a crumbling mountain with the magnetic grabs, anything with the Firefly in, or moreover, Thunderbird 2 being shot down by the USN Sentinel. That last one really showed, for me at least, that even the heroes weren't invincible and weren't above being shot down, even if it were in this case accidental friendly fire.

Hope no one minds this being posted!

#82814 Sorry for the downtime

OK folks, I've set the Trektoy Twitter up:

https://twitter.com/Trektoy

FHC and Jay K have the equivalent of admin ability, I've added a quick profile picture, quick blurb, and link to the main forum. I've also followed the page via my main Twitter account, under the alias William T Riker.

Anything I can do, drop me a line!

Haven't been around for awhile, but thought I'd take some shots of the latest delivery, the Steamrunner and the D'Kyr!

First, the USS Appalachia:

And the ring ship:

21103674598_d75a44de93_z.jpg

(Sorry about a couple of wonky shots, I rebuilt my "studio" on my sofa, not the most level area I soon discovered!)

One thing I did notice with this batch, for the first time in about 25 issues the quality slipped. Nothing so major that I would complain, just little things, the base for Appalachia is scratched (the white mark visible in some shots), the paint on the impulse deck is slightly splattered, and the alignment on the rear pods inside the ring on the D'Kyr is misaligned. I thought nothing of it till I saw the small white slip enclosed abut the price increase. Still, very happy with these, particularly the Appalachia.

Any extra shots of these, or shots of any of the starships released anybody wants, just ask, I'm more than happy to photograph them!

#82460 I'm back!

Posted by Redshirt#7 on 18 August 2015 - 12:09 PM

Well, I'm back, again! Hit some hard times, girlfriend was ill, Mother was ill, lost a few friends and family, and had some job insecurity, I pretty much run out of time to do anything but post every once and a while on social media.

I have returned though, again, and while I may not be as prolific in posting as I once was, I will be posting!

Great to see Nigel back, and fantastic post robster, pretty much all those and then some! I've got to say, it's only be a few minutes but like last time it's like I've returned home.

See you all around folks,

Dan

I know it's usually Worf's job, but I wanted to say a happy birthday to Daysleeper, resident customizer maestro!  :djparty:

Hope you have a great day

Excellent photos Jay K!

Sorry about the delay again. I tend to get my wages a couple of days after Eaglemoss try taking money out for my subscription, so I get them a couple of weeks later than normal. However, I've now got them, and pictures!

And the Grissom (this ship, as mentioned, is huge! One of the biggest, and best, despite it not being my favourite ship design)

Here in the UK it's Boxing day, I had a great Christmas, among a few other things I got these, Star Trek wise:

#78544 My AA/DST customs - DS9, VOY, Tasha Yar...

Posted by Redshirt#7 on 22 December 2014 - 04:41 PM

Some superb customs you have Lt Shark! My personal favs are your DS9ers, your Enterprise crew, and your Voyager crew, but all are done to a very professional standard in my opinion. As a massive DS9er, I'm particularly impressed with your Kira in her regular Bajoran military uniform, and it's fantastic you've included Porthos. (Plus, who doesn't like Orion's?)

My only suggestion for improvement would be to remove Yar's collar, however, I can see why you'd leave it on. And one quick question, any plans for others? :D

#78508 Prometheus tackles the Defiant again!!!

Perfection. Absolute, perfection. Count me as a Defiant fan, she's my favourite ship, so this is doubly impressive to me. An excellent creation!

That is looking very, very nice, and that hull, stunning work. I can't wait to see how this goes.

Thanks for the replies! I think I've only been away from the UK or Ireland for Christmas once. I went to the US with my family, so long ago in my memory however, but my uncle got me this:

My only Star Trek ornament thus far, sitting in my Christmas tree nebula. Apart from this, Riker and Picard have invaded the Nativity scene:
