Can somebody give us all an up-to-date summary of the actual number of planned issues, broken down into types?

Memory-Alpha states there will be "160 + special issues".  This is highly ambiguous IMO.

To me, special issues means the larger ones which cost more.  But there are also the smaller sized bonus issues (including shop exclusives), mirror universe issues, etc.

Does 160 issues refer only to the numbered, smaller issues?  Meaning we are still in for about 1.5 years worth of more ships?

Is it still 160?

Will the Picard show get its own new collection or will it turn into 260?

Do we have any idea how far they will go with more non-numbered, smaller ships?

Hey Whirly! Actually, M-A says 160 + Special editions (which, as the contents and headings lay out) includes Mirror, Bonus, Shuttle, Special, and XL issues. I know 'cuz I wrote it. :) This is based on EM's way of identifying things but, as I'm sure you've noticed, it's a bit of a dog's dinner. Some (reg. sized) Bonus issues are titled (on their covers) as "Special issues" by EM, for instance. Yup, it's confusing, and the webshop has not always been consistent, either. We muddle on.

Anyhoo, Hobsgrg's interpretation is spot-on in all respects. Rumour has it that ships from the upcoming Picard show will be launched as a new partwork (like the Disco line) as a condition of the license... but this hasn't been confirmed.

Apparently, the toolings are very expensive to produce but the actual production ships are crazy cheap to manufacture. We've seen the regular ships being solicited for less than $2 a pop in China, if you buy 5000 or more. Subs and the webshop are highly profitable for EM; it's quite doubtful the line would still be going if they'd only wholesaled them to Diamond.

Yes this is a great point, Eaglemoss by selling direct via subs and online are able to enjoy a much higher profit margin as typically the wholesale price is only about half the retail price. This means they don't need to sell a huge number in order to make up the tooling cost and then make a good profit on any additional sales beyond that.

I've got a DPD delivery notice for today and the only thing I'm expecting is the XL Reliant and Voy Concept. Looking at the online store the Reliant now says 'add to basket' so it looks like that's the one on the way.

Still can't pre order the Kobyashi Maru though.

It was the XL Reliant.

Early impressions, its good. I'm doing pretty well with the XL ships, the NX and Voy have been great, the Defiant less so in terms of paint but great in other regards. I've skipped the ones with less good reviews.

My XL Reliant has arrived, apart from the ridiculous problem where the ship registry is not only unreadable but you can't even see it is there at all from any kind of distance the model is great. The Reliant has text around the edge of the saucer like the Enterprise-A however on the Reliant the text is actually the right size instead of the massively oversized text on the A. It's missing the stripes around the saucer but they were missing on the regular sized version as well.

There is no misaligned windows because there are no indentations for where the windows are supposed to be, however the gold triangles around the edge of the saucer are not aligned between top and bottom which is a strange oversight.

I really dont get what EM is doing with these XLs.

Why would they put a ship out where you cant even read the name? It was perfectly legible on screen, why would they think this is correct?

For some bizarre reason they tried to make the writing "more accurate" by giving it a border like they did with the registry number. At this size the white and red around the lettering would need to be ridiculously thin so instead they only gave it a relatively thick white border but kept the letters the right size so it is now lots of white border with only a tiny amount of black. They should have kept it all black like the regular sized version

The quality control is baffling. That ship would be a solid 10, but it still looks gorgeous. What's the saucer there Hobs, metal or plastic?

The top half is metal, the underside is plastic

They even "fixed" the window misalignment by not indenting them, if they had just made the registry legible then this would have been the first pretty much perfect XL.

I'm definitely still getting this one. I haven't bought any ships in a long time, but this and the recently announced tug from DS9 are must-buys for me (I was a deckhand on tugs in real life a long time ago :D ).

Thanks for clarifying Hobs - reason I ask is because I'll definitely fix it (friend will be able to make me a stencil, and I'll use his airbrush). I'll get around to doing that when I make the Defiant kit (which I still haven't bought yet).

Only other XL models I'm waiting for/would consider buying, are the Excelsior and a Runabout. The C could be lovely, but DST have that covered. If they ever make any XL non-hero ships, there would obviously be a few there that I'd consider (Prometheus that magnetically splits into three would be a dream for one).

My concept Voy appears to have arrived if the DPD app is to be believed.

Yes mine arrived today. The model despite being small due to the long and thin proportions has an impressive amount of small details.

I loved this Voyager concept back in the day, but now I can see why they didn't go in this direction: It's too long to maneuver convincingly on screen and it can't really be photographed from a ton of different angles.

Still, this was a really cool design back in the day.
