A comment about what you said about Mego adding a hood to the POTA Virdon figure, I am wondering if Mego had plans to release some other Planet of the Apes figures because the Beneath the planet of the Apes movie had characters that wore hoods really similar to the one that figure head has. Maybe they scrapped the figure and saw a chance to use it when the Star Trek aliens figure line came along. I am sure it wouldnt be the first time something like that happened.

Also, when i read your blog where you were naming the manufacturers of the two figures, i really thought that EMCE was the manufacturer of the reissues and that Diamond Select toys was just distributing them. I know thats just a technical comment, but for some reason it just didnt seem right to say DST was the manufacturer because i think they are only contracting, not actually in the design and production of the retro figures.

Yeah, i usually mention dst and emce on the reissue spotlights... I just tacked it on kinda quick at the end there this time though and I just forgot to throw their name in too. Thats the first one I havent done that on.

Oh man a thing of beauty!

Of course that's what inspired the original design, I bet Wah Chang had a tape recorder and thought "I wonder..." even the name tricorder. Of course I had a cassette recorder and yep it was my tricorder!

Notice it's labeled Tricorder, makes me think that was on the minds of the STXI designers too!

To me, the only thing that makes any of the aliens in the mego 3.75 line worthwhile is their rarity. Obscure aliens that dont even have lines in the movie being made before important crew members is crazy IMO. The Arcturian was a bad choice for the 12" line as well, there should have been a McCoy instead. I think Mego was trying to put some variety out there but i think it would have been better to have two different Klingons than that ugly, bland looking Arcturion. Maybe even a Commander Sonak figure, even though he got fried in the transporter early on but then again, the Klingons got wasted earlier than Sonak.

Sallah, can you post a more natural comparison of the two Klingons, or does the Ertl figure stand that way naturally??
I paid big money to get a Mego Klingon, even though I bought one in the store, originally!

It will probably have to be pried out of my dead hands... but if I ever did sell it, I will keep you in mind.
