^He was transporter chief or chief operations officer on DS9. His position on the station gave him the ability to "outrank" others...even on the Defiant (where he functioned as chief engineer)

Right. Which means Torres did not have to be a LT to be chief engineer. tongue.gif

^You misunderstand me. First of all, the fact he was chief of operations made him a senior officer, even without the rank. However that was a position he earned through years of service as a non-commissioned officer.

For Torres, being an individual who had not served years in the field and who had not completed work at the academy, she NEEDED the rank to give her authority in the circumstances they were under. Plus it was appropriate for her to only get Lt. J.G. due to her inexperience in ships operations...and, in some books, youth.

I had a few laughs at this...it is a long review of the episode Sub Rosa, rather long, but quite amusing (in a somewhat childish way!):

I can't believe I never realised the guy who played Ronin also played Shakaar!

^I'm still amazed sometimes when I rewatch TNG eppies and find actors who later went on to star in hit series or guest star in other Trek series like this one!

Penny Johnson (Cassidy Yates) was a guest star in a TNG episode and then went over to DS9 as a major player.
Marc Alaimo too. And Salome Jens and Max Grodenchik.

Alexander Enberg was a guest star on TNG and went on to Voyager. As did Tim Russ and Robert Duncan McNeill.

Wow... that's what came to mind. Who else?!?
