I wouldn't shut the forum over it, man. I joined here from the Art Asylum forum when it shut down, and I was happy so many people came over, as (even though I've only lurked for the last few years) it's a great place to gain knowledge on various things, and to share stuff like photos and the like. The thing that has surprised me with this negativity though, is that the ones complaining the most aren't just moody kids/teenagers (as I suspected they might've been), they're actually all 35+, which is something I would not have guessed in the slightest. :/
As for your point on toys versus props (regarding price, especially), I for one couldn't agree more. For

FHC I would hate to see this place go. It has been my collecting home for quite a long time. I think I am member number 8 or close to it. The negativity has gotten crazy lately but I think a lot of it is just a couple of people fanning the fire and spreading it to others. Maybe the way to get rid of it is to get new mods. Have a couple of people watching over things that know the difference between constructive criticism and a rant. I think most of the people here know how to act but a couple need to be prodded a little if they start to stray. That's just my two cents on the matter. I am sure we will all respect your decision no matter what.

I'd hate to see it go as well, but I tried all that I could do to help bring up the negativity level for a few months and all it did was seem to do was nothing and sometimes might have even hurt to a point, but sometimes on this board you can voice an opinion only to have it brushed off, when you step up to the plate and put it out there then it gets a little bit noticed, but when more than one person starts agreeing with what you are saying about negativity levels, especially the alumni here then I would think that maybe there was a valid point to begin with. I would understand your hesitation on not renewing the forum but overall i'd hate to see it go. This really is one of the only places of its kind. But Mark, do what ya gotta do, and trust and believe I understand with whatever choice you make bud. If it does end then it was a good run, I came aboard in 08...and we had some great years and some not so great years as well...

Well, FHC, you certainly shouldn't keep it running if its not bringing you any enjoyment.

If you do shut it down, before you do... let me take a moment say how much I have enjoyed it over the years, and to personally say "Thank You".

This has been one of my favorite sites and while I don't always agree with every poster I've had a discussion with, I have learned to try and look at things from other perspectives. So while your probably right that no one changes their, opinions, I would hope a few of us have learned to appreciate another perspective.

Seeing a number of posts (in different threads no less) that you've made, certainly made me go back and look at some of my posts, and I hope I'm not contributing to the negativity of the site, though I'm sure I've had a rant or two over the years.

I guess it also made me think about how much most of us (myself included) tend to repeat the same thing. I guess thats a bit of human nature, and well... sorry about that! It tends to happen when threads pop up with more or less the same topic.

Any how, I love being a member here, and really enjoy blogging with other trek fans, even if we don't agree.

If I can do anything to help make your site better for you... please tell me or tell us, and I'll try to oblige so that you can enjoy it as much as your patrons do!

I just want to say, being a newbie here, that this is the best forum I have EVER been on, despite the negativity in some small places.

Being a fan of a number of other shows and a buyer of many different toys, I've been on a fair few forums in the last few years, and I must say this site is 1 million times better than any of them put together. To me, its just the right size, not to many people that nobody pays attention to you, and not to small to be considered a ghost town. I had to push my self to even post on some of the others sites, this one however I'll post as regularly as possible. Everybody here is friendly and there is no discrimination between members, for somebody who has few Star Trek friends besides my family its great to be able to chat, to share knowledge, to have a laugh with like-minded people.

In my opinion, this site embody's Gene's vision perfectly. Many thanks FHC in making a fantastic site, may it live long and prosper.

As a member from the beginning, ive seen ups and downs here. I would like to say that i have always been levelheaded when it came to collecting and interacting with other fans or members in discussions, but i have not. I used collecting as something to fill the void left by a divorce back in 2000, and i also became a single parent then. I am here to tell you that it is not easy to raise a daughter by yourself, and work fulltime in one of the most stressful jobs imaginable, being a Correctional Officer in a Prison. I joined the Art Asylum collectors club back in 2003, thats where i met Mark (FHC). When it closed up, SaveEnterprise.com had already opened in 2004 and we sort of hung out there, became Moderators, then Admins. FHC opened his first Trektoy.com and for months i think it was me, FHC and maybe 1 or 2 more people. Eventually it took off though. I have been suffering from depression for several years without really getting any treatment and i had a meltdown when SaveEnterprise.com closed and Trekunited took over. I basically went from being a Admin to being a troll. Here at this forum, i continued to be argumenative and even got banned for a year once several years ago.

The reason i am recounting all of this is because i became possessed by collecting, spending too much money, and had become arrogant and took offense easily if i felt someone else was being arrogant. I havent spent much time on here in the last year and a half because my condition had become so debilitating i could hardly get out of bed. Its been a hard row to hoe, but i have gotten some treatment, taking medication and feel better than i did a few months ago. I have sold off almost everything in my collection, with the last few things on auction on ebay now. I still have some bad days, but the good days are comking more often and i enjoy my job working at the Movie Studio here! It has been a blast watching Iron Man 3 being made !

In conclusion, i will echo what i have heard FHC say many times, This is a hobby and its supposed to be fun. If its not fun anymore then its time to quit. If you find yourself arguing over petty things, getting upset over things that dont amount to a hill of beans, then you need to step back and examine yourself. Courtesy does go along way. No one has a right to be rude, regardless if you are right or not. Remember what our mama's and Grandmothers said, If you can come up with something nice to say, dont say anything at all. Hobbies are supposed to be fun and stress relievers, not stress builders.

To anyone here that ive ever offended, i am deeply sorry and i am trying to have a more positive outlook on life and be respectful of others around me. Thanks for reading1

I appreciate you sharing.... I have always found your posts insightful and pleasant.... I will say I notice your not around as much on the board.... Doesn't seem the same with out you around as much.... but I understand if you have to contend with life's responsibilities ..... I on the other hand am not married and don't have kids so I tend to escape more with my collecting.... sometimes I do too much with the collecting and probably am not living enough.....

Oh geez...I'm getting all self analytical..... lol .... Where's Counselor Troi when I need her !!!

I want to say thank you also FHC for providing this awesome forum !!!

prop_aa_phaser_reworked.jpg

and that is not a role play item, but it cost 10X as much.

I'm not sure that I am going to renew the forum in April to be honest.

Oh please say it ant so. This place is one of the few good things I have in my life in part thanks to FHC and the Save Enterprise people that came over. Since then I have mad new friends and have learned much. This forum is more than a place to talk about toys it is a place of learning, where we can share ideas and passions. Now with that said I spend most of my time on this forum in the custom section so I don’t see a lot of that ranting aspect, but in my humble opinion I do not think that you should take down the wonder that you have created here at trek toy this is your Star Trek and like G.R. you have good people that appreciate all your hard work and would hate to see it go. Now b4 I get all mushy I will end with, DON’T LET ME GET KLINGON ON YOUR @$$

Ps:  just ban people like that.

No worries. I had to jump through a LOT of hoops to get this new forum in place, and it cost a few bucks too. It'll be here awhile longer.
