I remember way back when..a game called Stargate Alliance was going to come out...then it died, now we are supposedly getting a MMORPG (I remember hearing about this years ago). I can't imagine paying for a game then paying again to play, I personally feel this is such a great scam by companies that produce these types of games. Someone please sell me on this concept.

I can't believe that we don't have any SG1 video games! I would love one. I would like a first person shooter game in this universe.

Well I am not going to try and convince you to play something you dont think you will like but I do know that lots of people like MMORPG's. These types of games arent like regular console games where you sit down by yourself and play against the machine for a a half hour and then save and go on to something else. These games are a more of a community role play type thing. Several of the guys at my work play an MMORPG and talk about it all the time like it is real life. They play for hours at a time and seem to get lost in thier little world and instant message each other the entire time while playing. And it is not like you pay every time you log in to play either. It is mor elike a subscription service. So you basicaly create characters, join up with friends, and imerse yourself into an imaginary world that you can back to whenever you want to. And since there are other peopel playing and many different worlds that you can do and many different missions that you can do different ways it is soemthing that you can do for wuit ea long time. I think the guys at work have playing thier one game for a couple of years now. I would consider getting into this one or the Star Trek one that is coming out soon but I dont have the time to let it be part of my life and sit and play for hours at a time. But they are tempting.

That my major problem too. Ill play a game nonstop (like Halo3) for 2 months and then not pick it up again for a year. Even with Xbox Live I have trouble convincing myself to buy it. I have heard good things for stuff like it, but if you dont have the consistent time i wonder if its worth it.

...and that's the real kicker...time. I am married and have two small children. I can't afford to spend time immersed in a new world. I have a feeling I would try to spend a lot of time playing it but get frustrated when I couldn't. I prefer the console games, I can play for 20 minutes, save, then play again in a few days. Trek and Star Wars fans have it pretty good with all the games to choose. I guess I feel left out in the Stargate gaming world. I know..I know..whah whah whah. I just felt like voicing my dissapointment that such a successful franchise has no games (just an upcoming MMORPG).

Star Trek fans don't exactly have it made in the video game department. There has never been a really, really good Star Trek game. There have been decent ones, but there has never been one that really stood out like X-Wing and KOTOR have for Star Wars (and even then those are the only two truly good Star Wars games). I'm still waiting for that one great Trek game.

I have to disagree...there are multiple titles to choose from for your PC regarding Trek. I personally love Star Trek Armada and still play that once in awhile. Star Wars also has multiple titles to choose and I do agree KOTR is one of my favorite games of all times, but there are alo titles like Jedi Outcast which are fun. Stargate has zero games at the moment to choose from, shich is such a shame considering the popularity of both series. Stargate Alliance looked like a fun game, I wish that was able to come out.

I disagree as well. Stand outs are the 25th Ann. Game, TNG: Echoes from the Past, TNG: A Final Unity, DS9: The Fallen, VOY: Elite Force. I was surprised to see how many games there were HERE at Memory Alpha.

I think Stargate deserves at least one. LOL

Elite Forces is also one of my favorite games of all time. I wish they would rerelease it for the Wii to be used with the Wii shooter gun. It be like playing it at the arcade! I think a stargate 1st person shooter would be awesome too. Im with you GL, I cant ebeleieve that theres nothing out there!

I didn't say there were no fun Trek games that I enjoyed playing. There are. However, I am a hardcore gamer and take gaming very seriously. And for the hardcore gamer who plays just about everything that comes down the pipe, there are no breakthrough Trek games that are standouts or break any new ground in the world of gaming. While Jedi Outcast was fun and does have an avid following, it didn't have the inherent appeal of KOTOR and X-Wing to really grab serious gamers and casual fans alike while also presenting a game that is both original and builds upon the mythos of the franchise from which they are derived. While there have been many good Trek games that I have enjoyed playing, none have set the gaming world on fire nor been especially memorable enough to become a serious part of the Trek phenomenon.

My favorite Trek game was Dominion Wars. Yet it was extremely unpolished, buggy, and seemed to be very rushed to me. I also enjoyed Armada, but that was glitchy and, again, seem to have been thrown together in a generic fashion without much thought in making it unique or taking advantage of the uniqueness of the Trek universe. It lacked depth and could have easily been some generic space-based strategy game if the words "Star Trek" weren't emblazoned on the box. I had fun playing Elite Force 1 and 2. But they were pretty much generic shooters.

I love Trek and I love games. That's why I wish someone would be inspired to create a Star Trek game that is innovative and refreshing and put enough love and sweat into making it that it becomes the Star Trek equivalent of KOTOR, or Halo, or COD 4, or Portal, or Mass Effect, or Warcraft.

As for an all out great Trek Game. I think this may be it. Star Trek Online From what I have seen it looks amazing. It may even get me into the MMORPG type of game.

I love the idea of a Star Trek MMORPG. I'm also afraid of losing 80 hours a week to it.

Seriously, though, Star Trek lends itself to the ongoing and wide reaching format of an MMO moreso than most other franhises. A Starfleet career can be more realistically depicted and experiences through the ever-continuing nature of an MMO. So I think it has the potential to be a real winner, at least for those of us that are hardcore Trek fans who have dreamed of being part of that universe. I can't say I'll enjoy having to scrub out those warp coils, though. wink.gif
