Hmmm...I've noticed Soran seems to get a bad wrap. He is currently sitting in my queue of figures to open.
My only gripe is that he doesn't come with that cool looking disruptor/phaser type gun he had in Generations.
Though I get the distinct impression that Playmates just stopped caring about accessories once a sufficient pool of phasers, tricorders, engineering tools and "UV Light Sources" existed.
Ha! I know what you mean. I've been adding to my Excel Spreadsheet that I catalogue my PM figures on, and the amount of times I put "UV Light Source" or "Isolinear Chips" or "Type 2 Phaser" "TNG Monitor" or the endless collection of those Engineering tools, the same ones that every one had is utterly endless.
As I said in one of my other topics, as I buy accessory lots a lot to give to my loose figures, I end up with about 5 of the same thing, and their all pink or purple or Trill worms or Tea sets!
Anyway, Soren is good, but (as a result of Playmates out of Date info) he is inaccurate, and as a result he looks bland standing next to some of the other Playmates figures, like the Esoqq or the Hunter Of Tosk. I have plans to buy another one and add his trademark scar, at the moment he’s mugged a Jedi for a Brown jacket, although I think I might end up making him one.
As lacking as some of Playmates Accessories where, their are ones like the Polaric Generator For Kim or the Malcorian Medical equipment for Riker or the Interphasic Compensator for Sisko that where accurate to the figures in question. But don't let that put you off, he’s still good, especially with the Duras Sisters.
Back on topic, I never liked the Pastel coloured TMP uniforms, I always preferred the TWOK uniforms. Still, the TMP figures where good.
And one that everyone seems to have missed (correct me if I'm wrong), Mutated Tom Paris! I don't know if the designer was mad or deluded, but somebody who picks him over the 1000's of Trek Characters that they could have made is definitely qualified in my books.
