#96243 Star Trek - The Official Starships Collection

Posted by hobsgrg on 16 July 2019 - 07:07 AM

I haven't bought any models recently as run out of space but I couldn't resist buying some more XL when there was a 3 for 2.

As already mentioned the Runabout is lighter than it looks, the bottom and top are metal but the main body is plastic. The model itself looks fantastic and extremely pleased with it.

The Bird of Prey is a very solid weighty chunk of metal but was just a bit underwhelming for me although I can't put my finger on why.

The Enterprise C is a very nice model, although the plastic used for the deflector is too transparent so you can see the post behind it joining the two parts together.

Hobs, post some pictures of that next to the DST D or E please dude (should be in-scale). :)

I'd be interested in getting an XL Excelsior (or a Lakota variant of the B).

I don't own any of the DST ships only have the Eaglemoss ones.

So my Enterprise B arrived today. First impressions were good but I can't help feeling the edge of the saucer is too thin and the lack of the blue stripes on the edge when they were present on the regular sized version baffles me. As per usual the windows on the side are of course mis-aligned but as they are white on grey this is hard to see, from a distance you can only see the indentations of where the windows were supposed to be.

This is a ship that works a lot better in XL size than regular.

So my XL Enterprise A arrived today but there are various paint splodges on it, very noticeable on the neck but also some on the warp pylons and on the top of saucer.

The model itself is very nice, or at least would be if I didn't have a screwed up paint one

Does anyone have the K-7 station? Im thinking of getting it, but wondering what size it is. I see a listing that says its 8-9 long, the listing also says SS Enterprise, so I dont know...
Thank you, a photo with a regular scale ship would be awesome

Depending on how you measure it then it isn't much "longer" than a regular ship but the model itself is comfortably bigger than a regular ship

If it's no problem Hobs, could you take a photo of it next to the Defiant (Eaglemoss), and the DST D or E? I just want to see how they look in terms of scale. :)

EDIT: Just thought, the Equinox would be especially excellent (and more fitting). lol :D

Here you go. Comparing it to the original Voyager the improvement in fine detail is insane. While the other ones were a slightly disappointing the same but bigger the improvement in the fine detail on Voyager cannot be over stated. If you want to nit pick there is misaligned windows because they always do. It's a 10/10 for me, regular Voyager kind of looks like junk now in comparison!

I don't own any non Eaglemoss models. I collected the toys as a kid but when I became an adult I stopped and it was only when Eaglemoss brought the collection out that I started buying models.

Darn it. Where did you find that code?

I'm on their mailing list, for every jumbo so far they've emailed me when it has been added to the store and included a £5 off code but for the Voyager they increased it slightly with a 15% discount.

My Nostromo arrived today :) It's a very nice model but it is mostly plastic. Only the front is metal and even then it must be hollow, the model is a lot lighter than the jumbo Star Trek ships.

So I got my jumbo Enterprise-E today. Not really much more I can say that hasn't already been said. Beautiful model, LOTS of metal, it could have been an amazing model but stupid errors not fixed mean it isn't.

I finally got my jumbo D. It doesn't feel as big of an upgrade as the TOS Enterprise but still nice nonetheless. I know size wise it isn't that much bigger than the Franklin but there is a heck of a lot of metal in the jumbo D. It is now extremely front heavy with all the metal in the saucer. I would have preferred a bigger model with less metal though.

I received my shuttles this morning, you actually get a "magazine" with them this time although its only small and 8 pages. I had the same spelling mistake on mine as well.

Seen a few people who might have a line of sorts into Eaglemoss (read: spoken to Ben/know him well) indicate that the fourth Enterprise this year will be... the NX-01.

Nothing against the ship, but with the NX-01R still being a fairly recent release in terms of specials, I would've prioritised the C, B or Refit/A over the NX.

Wait what??? For me there is a clear desperate need for the B and the Refit. I was never happy with the B just because the fact it is long and thin makes it a poor fit for the regular scale. I think we can all agree that the original Refit model was terrible by Eaglemoss standards, a jumbo gives them a chance to finally give us a good Refit after the A only partially solved the issues.

The NX-01R model is absolutely superb and I like the design better than the original. Jumbo NX-01 should have been their lowest priority surely?

Jumbo ships are going to be quarterly according to Ben. TOS is out now, then the D, then the E. Once the Enterprises are done, Ben's hinted at the Defiant and Voyager being up next (2018), followed perhaps by an Excelsior, or (strangely/amazingly) a Runabout.

I thought a jumbo Runabout was crazy originally but now I have my first jumbo ship I actually think jumbo Runabout would be awesome.

I would say though that the Runabout works particularly well in the regular scale so it doesn't feel particularly necessary but would be awesome just for the hell of it.

Awesome two Type-15 shuttles for the price of one!

It'll be back soon apparently (no idea why it got removed...).

New previews of the Jumbo-D - second prototype (updated paint, red line around the name on the saucer etc), and the first picture has a little glimpse of the Rhode Island:

They have now reappeared and the £20 off still works so ordered them, thanks for the heads-up on that. £75 would be too expensive for me but £55 is just about bearable.

It could be that to do the J justice they'll do it as a special.

How anyone can be disappointed with this line up is beyond me. This is an awesome line up of ships that we've never seen in model form.

What I don't like however is that major ships are still missing, as mentioned before the Kazon and Vidiians are absent. Ben has mentioned that there is no CG model for the Kazon and the CG models for the Vidiians were lost so that explains why they didn't appear early on but I expected to see them by now.

The other ship I really want to see is this:-
