I'm still working on my set...but I'm limiting myself to only classic tv/movie inspired ones. The 1991 one is really the only one that's all that expensive...everything else seems pretty reasonable...

As for the review, you're spot on! I agree about the 1991 placement as well as lack of engine lights and/or sounds, but considering this was the first one ever, they did a decent job.

On this review: As for "The Menagerie" ornament, I'd say you gave it a spot on review. This scale's likenesses do take some getting used to (as they are not the best likenesses), but other than that it's a good ornament.

Picked up the Hallmark P1 Phaser ornament yesterday and my first impression is : gee, its looks & feels just like the Art Asylum P1 phaser
- the sight hood is not firm and rattles when shaken (it flops open when flipped upside down)
- similar plastic casing texture as the Art Asylum (maybe a slightly more shinier for the Hallmark)
- the firing is activated by turning the thumb wheel ... which simultaneously raises the sight hood and shoots out a red light at the emitter tip
- there are three firing sound pitch(s): low, medium and high frequency which can be selected by turning the numbered dial
- the middle small button (located between the thumb wheel & number dial) plays the following sample voices (with each press) :
Kirk: concentrate your phaser fire at what appears to be its head
Kirk: set you phaser on one quarter & I'll leave mine on stun
Spock: direct you phasers at 2:00 and to 10:00, take aim please and fire when I give the signal
Kirk: your phasers will be set on maximum, the creature may or may not attack on sight, however, you must
Kirk: we come in peace but we'll defend ourselves if necessary
Spock: listen, do you hear it, that low hum; Kirk: phaser; Spock: on overload
Overall, okay; decent sound quality; a little on the expensive side ($25 CDN) but if you need to complete your Star Trek Hallmark ornament set & also to 'combo' it with last years communicator, then go for it.
BTW, I had to exchange mines as the first one was electronically defective (right out of the box) & non-functional ... this is the first in history for me that I got a defective ST Hallmark ornament ... I've always had a perfect record with Hallmark ornaments
