A little late, but I'm more or less back on schedule! So after a brief detour into the lands of DS9's TNG Sisko, and the mystery that gripped us all, was he spare parts man or retooled man was finally solved, I'm moving back into my original plan, reviewing the cadets!

As you may be aware, back in 96 Playmates decided that, out of their dark and twisted minds, it's be a good idea to release a line of characters who never appeared on screen, namely young versions of most of the TNG crew. All the TNG bridge crew eventually got the treatment, however, that's a story for another day. I decided to look at Worf for this review, why? Because it changes things around a bit, plus, a "night reconnaissance suit" that's beige and white has got to provide a funny line somewhere hasn't it?

A front view of him sealed. As mentioned in the Picard review (shameless self promotion), I love these boxes, very tall, heavy compared to your regular figure, very appealing to the eye,  it gives you the impression that you've got a lot for your money. In case you forgot who Worf was, you've got the obligatory "ALL NEW! Starfleet crew members as young cadets" to reassure you that this is a 100% accurate representation of Worf in his young days (Rule of Acquisition 19: Satisfaction is not guaranteed).

A back view. Nothing too odd going on here, Worf wise. The prototype is painted more than the final product, but that seems inherent in all the cadets and quite a few other figures too.

A pic of Worf's bio. It, like Picard's, is nicely composed, using info from various TNG episodes (Family and Heart Of Heart Of Glory come to mind, among others).

The CD ROM, containing an ominpedia that refuses to load on my computer unless I upload the files on by one. The artwork from the box is printed on the CD.

Worf's accessories. Not a fan of the pink stuff, but it's nice to see they painted the armour pieces. The green stuff at the back is, as you may have deduced, Worf's armour, while the stuff at the front is, from left to right, a knife, a phaser, that small square item is a Tricorder according to the box, and a searchlight, as used by Commander Riker on many occasion.

Worf's base, the standard Academy base (that suspiciously looks exactly like Cadet Picard's, and is in the exact same position as the one in Picard's review. It's as if it's the same picture...)

A front view of Worf, unboxed, without the Jell-O accessories and armour. This is supposed to be a night reconnaissance suit, and though I lack thorough knowledge in military combat and warfare, I know if I went out in this on reconnaissance I'd be creamed before you could yell "Disrupter blast!". Maybe Zak Kebron played a joke on him.

A close up of the head. I'm not sure what to make of the head, on one hand it does look like Worf, but then I can't shake the feeling it looks like Alexander (though this is understandable being father and son). If you look hard enough, I can see at least a little Dorn around the eyes and chin.

A back view. The belt and the shoulder strap both continue around the back, plus various detail on the legs and boots. The hair's pretty well done as well. If your wondering what the holes are, the armour plugs into them when you attach it.

Continued momentarily!

All tooled up. The armour looks pretty impressive on him, I quite like it, though his other stuff is going to be painted.

A back view. You can see how the armour attaches to him. The shoulder pads clip on, so they have the unfortunate tendency to fall of every once in a while.

The Jell-O knife in it's holster.

A comparison between his younger and older self.

To the conclusion!

Would I recommend him?

Yes, he's a pretty good figure, a good likeness, and an overall good figure. One or two flaws, but nothing that I can't ignore or I can't fix with some blue tak or paint, though your opinion may be different. Plus, as discussed in detail before, I like stuff that never appeared on screen!

Price?

Just like Picard, I got him for £7.50, not bad at all to complete the Cadet's!

Playability?

What exactly can you do with a young Worf? Let him loose on some Romulan's sure, but without some time travel I suppose it is limited, unless you completely disregard the timeline and have him fight Kirk, Sisko, and a Swarm Alien on a Borg cube, or something like that.

Any preferences on what to review next is always appreciated! I hope you enjoyed the review, I've got another special lined up soon, so stay tuned!

Cadet Beverly Howard. Let's have some girl stuff here...

Nice review, by the way. I never noticed this was supposed to be a night reconnaissance outfit. LOL

I like how three times as much attention went into these when it comes to accessories versus other figures being made at the time.

This line is also a reflection of making "action heroes" out of the characters for toy purposes, which was also popular at the time, though Trek didn't lend itself all that easily to that sort of thing when it comes to canon material.

In this line some figures have something resembling spacesuits, but not quite, as what would have been period-correct spacesuits weren't seen until First Contact. Otherwise, doing a whole line of figures in spacesuits would have been pretty tempting.

This line also seemed like an attempt to cater to an actual kid audience, even though Pmates openly acknowledged at the time that 7 out of 10 figures stayed in packaging and were bought by adult collectors.
