What is the difference between these two, except for the little "Specia European Version" on the packaging?

^Not sure, but I'd wager there's also a difference in the peg hook. IIRC European cardbacks had a "J" hook.

errr, why does he have cuffs on his uniform? were they using the picard in jacket to do the arms???
it looks kinda odd that way. what do they go for on evilbay, any ideas

Crossroads Sisko was a 7th season Picard figure except for his head (obviously) and the forearms, which came from a regular DS9 Sisko (1st release). Apparently it was easier to take the forearms and repaint them red to match the uniform than it was to remix the black skin tone and repaint the hands. So go figure...

It's been a while since I've seen one on e-bay, but it went for mad money. I can only imagine what the Tri-fold Borg or the Klingon collection Worf would go for.

Those figures of Dr. Crusher make her look like a drunken sorority girl.

From what I remember the BanDai versions of these figures (including the T&T O'Brien and Dress McCoy) were actually the first 1000 of these figures released. America then got 1001 onwards.

I still like the Playmates line and wouldnt call anyone crazy that wanted to collect it. I do say that you should do your homework before buying to make sure you dont overspend because you can get some exceptional deals on ebay. Part of the thrill of collecting for me is getting the item i want for a decent price. I still happen to think the Playmates Star Trek line is great regardless how good the DST sculpts are, and they will always have a fond place in my heart.

^Well said VF. Since I still keep an eye out for the remaining Playmates items I'm missing, I wouldn't call it crazy either. Of course knowing that I'll be doing the same with DST/AA Trek (and Stargate as well) because I can't buy everything right now makes me wonder if I'm not crazy for just going ahead and going into debt right now while they're cheap as opposed to buying them at up to triple the price in a few months-years.

I collect the AA ones but they just don't have that same feeling for me that the Playmates ones did as a kid. I think it was all about seeing those ads in the Star Trek magainze (What was that magazine in the early 90s???) with all the figures on that alien planet.. Then seeing the 2nd wave with the 1st season uniforms, that was awesome.

Hey I'm still on the lookout for ones I don't have, of course that has come down to mistakes in the packaging or something. Most people don't place good enough photos on ebay for me to really see what I'm looking for and I have many times asked for better ones. My extra Playmates fill two large (biggest I could find) sealed plastic tubs.

yes that is it. if memory serves me right the first 1000 (Non US) were from DanDai however if you open the packages, then the figure is the same.

Figures are going for pretty cheap on ebay, so I'd say no.

I don't think you are crazy. Collecting the Playmates line would certainly be feasible as they as selling for really decent prices on e-Bay for the most part. Some of the ships and rare figures still go for a bit much.

My only warning is you probably won't get those same feelings as you did back then. You might be able to get a little bit, because you can go into a comic book store and find them on peg. I just think some of the fire would be gone and you might not get that ol' Playmates rush back.

And, collecting all of them will take quite a long time.

I am still collecting the Playmates line myself.

I have quite a few figures left to go, but I am getting there.

I was lucky enough to find a few people on these forums & Playtrek who wanted to sell off a lot of their Playmates collection.

I don't think anything could come to close to the feeling back in the day when the Playmates line was in it's early stages....but it's still a very warm & fuzzy feeling to finally own something you've been aiming at buying for the last 10 years!

I'm with Goro I buy these AA/DST figures as a throwback to Playmates also. I was very young back in those days and missed out on alot (Sisko mailaway anyone?) and now i'm able to get each and every one and i'm able to get them directly from Diamond so being a MOMC kinda person isn't hard when their coming fresh from the factory without having to buy sealed cases. To answer your question, no collecting Playmates wouldn't be a bad idea if you are an opener but if your going to want minty case-fresh packaging your gonna have a rough time. LL
