Man, I bought a ton of communicators to go with my ton of phasers. Not sure I can spring for tons of these though. I am really excited that DST decided to do these. I think the hardcore and casual fans alike will be happy.

This is a great move by DST.

They will have the Communicator, TriCorder and Phaser on speciality shop shelves when the Trek Movie comes out!

They are sure to get some new customers picking up their product based on the free brand marketing that they will get... and I think the complete "Away Team" playset will be well received.

I am SO looking forward to these! I'll need at least three or four. Two to save, one to display and one to use as a test bed for incorporating video&aduio / IPOD technology. This may also spur the secondary market for that type of electronics upgrade package...then all I gotta do is install it! YA Baby...YA!

The word is the Tricorder will be based on the HMS Model seen here in DS9 "Trials and Tribulations":

The word from Toyfair is the prototype shown there was actually the HMS Model. smile.gif

That really looks alot like the MR version... are we sure BBTS didn't just cop a pict of that to fill in until DST release actual picts?

Hmmm... after looking at some MR picts, I guess there are a few differences...

I will most likely get one!

That pic is actually the Prototype made by HMS (Steve Horch) and submitted to AA/DST. These you can buy from Roddenberry .com.

I am hoping that the production retains the size and some of the features, if so, it will be a killer release.

Also, they mention it comes with a "Scanning Device"

A Medical one perhaps that fits snugly in the bottom compartment?

On the originals (Two Tricorders were Made for Desilu by Propmaster Wah Ming Chang in 1966) he did in fact incorporate one of the disc as being removable, the first one as seen in this pic of Mr. Chang Holding one of the 2 originals:

I doubt that the AA/DST offering will have this feature, however I would like to know what type of " Portable Scanning Device" they are referring to that will be included with the release?

Did anyone notice Entertainment Earth has now listed the medical tricorder as an exclusive? It now states: "Includes an exclusive removable scanner" and "The Entertainment Earth Exclusive Medical Tricorder is the ultimate replica for any fan, collector, or 23rd-century physician. Not only does the case open to reveal the detailed interior of the tricorder, but this deluxe version also includes a compartment with a removable scanner accessory you won't find anywhere else!."

So does this mean the regular release will be a science version and will not be including a scanner? I'm guessing it does. So looks like we will be getting two trics after all.
