I'm hoping someone else with the assault phaser might be able to answer a question for me. Is it supposed to look dirty? Mine appears to have an especially dirty/weathered look that I don't really care for. If it's supposed to look like this I may return it for a refund, if not I'm going to exchange it. Can someone help me out? I attached some pictures.

E, the weathering pattern is normal. According to MR it is also screen accurate. They took a lot of flack for it because a lot the fans weren't expecting it.

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm happy to hear that. I got a pretty good deal on it so I think I'll end up keeping it. It looks pretty good on my shelf :-)

Yes they were first painted black but were too shiny for filming so they took a can of silver and misted the phasers to "tone them down" Looks just like these don't it? Notice the bad seem lines in these? LOL

Kind of looks like they got their weathering pattern by messing with photoshop's plastic wrap filter. They should've taken some tips from Mark!

Edit: I love the zip-tie holding the phaser to McCoy's belt, by the trigger!

How come these are cheaper & easier to come by on Ebay? More made & less people wanting them? Either way I'm definitely getting one sooner than I will get an Original Series phaser the way things look now.

Economy

I think it was a normal size run. I think a small part is that it does not look like what people remember it looking like, but what the real prop really does look like. You can see them clearly in the photo above. I think that group of people want idealized not a real replica.

I never knew that about the phasers. I do remember them being rather dirty in ST V, but I always thought they were just black, and got a liberal coating of fuller's earth on them because Kirk & co were supposed to be crawling around the dunes outside the city. Didn't realize they were painted that way. I seem to remember the phasers being... hmmm... cleaner and shinier looking int ST VI though. I guess I can count myself in the idealized group, as I definitely like a nice clean black phaser look better than the dusty/silverish one.

I was also kinda irritated by the sound system, the fact that you can't interrupt a firing sound, and that you have to wait a second before you can fire again.... but other than that, I love it.

Well as I have pointed out that would not be a replica and they're called Master Replicas. tongue.gif The ones in ST VI (except for a few from ST V that did not "walk off") were made up by prop master Ed Miarecki and they were not black either. They were painted with a very dark metallic gray for the most part with the handle area being black. This one's mine that I picked up from Ed.

That's a really good deal for it I think? Would you mind sharing where you got it from, Prometheus? I've been thinking about picking it up for a long while now but I don't like the excessive weathering, screen accurate though it might be....

I just did a Google search for mine and found the lowest priced one I could find. I ended up finding it at a U.S. based comic store's website for $264.99 with free shipping and had EE price match it. I prefer EE because of their no hassle return policy and they've never denied me a price match.

I'm guessing the free shipping won't apply to foreigners as well?
