The Enterprise/Bridge playset for this line was really amazing. I only wish it saw release.

The Galoob figures were mail order AND available through toystores. In 1989 when the movie was released, there was a order form available in the movie theaters to order them, and i also saw them on the shelves at Lionel Toy warehouse stores the same year. They went for about $20 each in the store. I believe they were only sold by the set through the mail, which was from the franklin mint i believe.

Still, it was in that year, and you could purchase them, couldn't you?

On that page I list the different color variants of the Data face that I have in my collection. Blue is the most rare.
Why6 would they come out with a blue-faced Data? Thats ludircious! And I'm sure I spelled that word wrong! You know what I mean!

They had a lot of problems with getting the color right.

Yup. They were going to release a bridge playset with attached transporter. Go here to see it.
They were actually planning a lot of things: "set piece" playsets that would have been made of cheaper materials (like cardstock with plastic set pieces), a flying enterprise glider (actually similar in concept to the one Playmates would later release), die-cast Ferengi ship. It would have been a good line if it had been given a chance.

I love this line of figures, because they resembled how they looked in the first year so well I think.

Was there really a bearded Riker figure?

From what I understand, Intergalactic had a load, and I mean a load of spare Riker's. Apparently Galoob thought Riker would be the most popular, hence made tons, when in fact he wasn't. Intergalactic's idea was to de-box extra Riker's, get a black marker pen and draw a beard on, and then give them away/sell them in promotions.
I can't validate the entirety of that, as I'm sure I've got something wrong, but that, I believe, is the basics.

I read that in an interview recently with one of the people who was at Galoob and worked on the line.
