I'll give it a watch.

I actually like "Lower Decks", though I haven't seen all of the first season yet.

Lower Decks was a breath of fresh air, and feels far more like the Star Trek I want than I expected it to - and far more so than the other shows currently on the air. Prodigy looks interesting, but I will be reserving judgement.

I just want Kurtzman to hand over the keys to the franchise to McMahan (LD's show-runner). He clearly loves it and knows it back-to-front.

Any verdicts yet? I didn't like Prodigy at first and there are still aspects of it that deserve criticism, but after catching up with the latest installments it is growing on me as possibly the best thing to come out of this new Trek Era.

It's growing on me too. It does have that feeling that Disco, Picard and JJtrek have that it's being made by people who aren't Star Trek fans, but I'm enjoying it.

Wow was episode 6 really wonderful. I hope we see more of that type of thing throughout all the new shows.

Yeah, that episode was like a love letter to longtime fans. Dal's subplot felt like watching someone play a sequel to Star Trek Bridge Crew - which was awesome (some better audio engineering would have been nice though). The main plot developments add an interesting and somewhat unexpected wrinkle to the ship's backstory too - and really elevates the resident hologram's role in proceedings. Excellent stuff.

The only thing about Prodigy I'm not super thrilled with is Dal's character, he's a bit too annoying to me. But, it's still new, and he has grown a bit as a character as the shows gone on so it could get better.

The underlying mystery of how the Protostar got here is interesting, I'm looking forward to seeing where that ends up going.

Latest episode put moisture in my eyes. Rokk is so wonderfully endearing, and I thought the sci-fi plot was a little vague but very well executed. We're also seeing some solid character growth for Dal, Rokk, and Gwen. I'm actually occasionally liking Dal.

Prodigy is definitely finding its footing. It's a very different premise with some promising characters and familiar callbacks. I'm even enamored of the opening credits.

Just waiting for Dal to discover he's from Pandora and has a LOT of growing to do.  B)

The opening credits and theme are fantastic, but I didnt expect anything less from Giacchino.

Really wish wed get him doing the full score for a Trek series. His work on the Kelvin Movies is one of the best things about them.

I guess Prodigy now joins the ranks of Star Trek series to be prematurely canceled. Let's see if it can be the first to continue after finding a new home.

One of the best new shows, hopefully someone picks up season 2 to air. Idk why they'd cancel this, and move forward with their dumbass 32nd Century Starfleet Academy series no one gives a shit about, or their Section 31 movie.

As good as Prodigy is, my assumption is that the target demographic wasn't watching and not enough of us adults were, either (though should have been).

The direction things have gone for all the current shows seems to indicate the key to success (as perceived/observed by the production team) is pandering as much as possible to the aged fandom who "gets all the references".  This shuts out nearly everyone else.  Which is fine, if it works.  But meanwhile, it already takes a LOT to get the attention of kids today.  They're too busy watching YouTube and TikTok to watch a TV show that isn't as hyperactive as technology has made all of them.

Paramount made a big deal celebrating "50 years of animation in Star Trek" for this past Star Trek Day but completely snubbed Prodigy.

I understand that they're trying to find a new home for the show and its second season so they may want to build up demand to increase leverage. However, totally ignoring it like that was pretty insulting.

Its ridiculous. They cancel the show when its second season was basically done, a show that as very well received. Just more stupidity from CBS/Paramount.

As I understand it, this wasn't the usual "poor ratings" reason for cancelling it. There's some tax reason for writing it off during the SAG-AFTRA strikes, I don't quite understand it, but they basically felt they could pay less tax (and, of course, wages) if they took it off their streaming service and pretended it never existed.

I get the impression they were simply trying to bank on pent-up demand so they could illustrate to prospective streamers how popular the series is with fans.

Either way, Prodigy has found a new home at Netflix, which isn't exactly a stunner. Looking forward to new episodes in 2024.

Hopefully that means Playmates wont cancel the Protostar, or will uncancel it.
