My Discovery has arrived, the main body of the ship was smaller than I was expecting. Those nacelles really are ridiculously long. Like others although the windows were nearly aligned on the inner ring that are ridiculously off on the outer ring. On the bottom of the primary hull the painted windows aren't even the same pattern as where the windows are indicated on the model itself.

Interestingly mine came with an apology letter saying that there will be a break before I get issue 3 but I will be given a free gift to make up for it. I've not seen that mentioned before, and I presume that only applies to UK subscribers.

I got the Discovery yesterday and I was a little surprised at how small it is and so Im glad they changed the size to a larger scale for this series. Its a nice model, the windows are horribly misaligned but from where it sits on display, its barely noticeable. I like the design and I have no complaints.

That being said, Ive cancelled my subscription to this series now. I just cant justify spending £29.99 each month on a series of just generic space ships that have no visual connectivity to STAR TREK.

This feels like a pointless series for anyone other than new fans of Star Trek brought in by Discovery. Even then, the show is so brand new that did we really want an entirely new subscription series to a show we barely know yet?

I get why theyd want to do the Shenzou, the Discovery and the Sarcophagus ship as well as the Enterprise but who cares about the rest? This show isnt iconic, its visual style was completely removed from anything iconic and established, so doing an entirely new subscription when they could of just done these ships as specials like they have with the Kelvin Timeline ships just seems ridiculous.

So no, Ill buy the new Enterprise just because its the Enterprise and it looked like a cool reimagining of ship but yeah, its a bit OTT for me that this exists as an entirely new subscription series.

I think the Federation designs are iconic, and certainly Star Trek enough. Theyre the reason Im sticking with it since I like virtually all of them.

The Klingon designs are more iffy, with the Sarcophagus ship and the... Veqlargh? Being even remotely Klingon looking.

BBTS put the jumbo Defiant up for preorder:

Maybe since there aren't windows, there wont be any paint issues on this one?

Forgot about that.

Since its just a blown up version of their small model, it wouldn't surprise me if that issue popped up again.

There is a fairly large number of windows on the underside of the Defiant, they're moulded on the regular model and painted. At least on my model they're all spot on. Though I wouldn't be surprised when the windows are misaligned on the big version, after the quality of at least the windwow alignment went downhill fast and the Defiant is one of the first issues.

I dont get why the earlier ships had no alignment issues, and now virtually every ship does.

Did they change who makes their ships?

Maybe they changed who QA checks the ships...to someone who doesn't care.

I don't think I need a giant Defiant, even if I end up with the others...do I? That will look in scale with approximately nothing. But it still might be cool. :P

That big Defiant has the same paint-job as its smaller counterpart, and not the updated application we saw with the Mirror version:

Obviously ignore the pennants, I'm just talking about the more accurate hull colouring on the top of the nacelles. I'm hoping for paint quality as good as Voyager's with this. Still can't shake a bit of slight disappointment that I thought it was the smaller version at first (as in, there's nothing they've added to make it 'look' XL). I wonder if the ventral pulse phasers will be on this model?

I really hope so...

I am certain that is the lower pulse phaser cannon, as the upper one is also there. The smaller model doesn't have them.

After looking at all the other jumbos, with the exception of Voyager they all have their stands in the centre of the base plate. However, it REALLY does look like the pulse phaser... lol

Nice catch whatever it is. That's a proper 50/50 thing right now. :)

The Defiant jumbo will likely have its mounting point for the base at the rear so that is probably the pulse phaser port.

Got shipping notice for the Beyond Enterprise Refit.

I dont really like the changes they made to it for the movie, but am really curious how they look side by side.

Really hope they show the A soon, I need that ship.
