Hi guys, I'm 1701D, my real name being David. Loved Star Trek for decades after being introduced to it through my mum's love of Star Trek.

I'm a mid 80's baby so I grew up watching TNG and fell in love with Star Trek after watching Star Trek: Generations and as well as various other episodes on at the time (Wednesday nights, BBC2, 6pm) The Best of Both Worlds, Yesterday's Enterprise and All Good Things are just a few of my favourite episodes.

Although I began loving Star Trek through the voyages of Captain Picard and Co. I didn't watch a full series of Star Trek until ENTERPRISE. Since then though I've watched all 5 live action Star Trek series with TNG and DS9 being my favourite.

As far as toy collecting. I began collecting the Star Trek ships during the mid 90's when Playmates had the licence. Collecting might be too strong a word as I was aged 11 at the time and I was into a lot of things and come to think of it I had more Power Ranger's Megazords, Jurassic Park Dinosaurs and Lego than Star Trek ships.

My first Star Trek toy was the battle damaged USS Enterprise D from the Playmates Generations line. Whilst many of the toy lines I loved as a kid I lost interest in, my interest in having toys based upon Star Trek continued. By the time my passion and love for Star Trek had reached maximum warp during ENTERPRISE, Art Asylum had been awarded the licence. In 2001 I began buying the ENTERPRISE, TOS, NEMESIS and BORG ASSIMILATION lines from AA. Those figures, ships and role play blew me away.

In a moment I regret to this day though, in 2007 I sold the lot! I think many a person goes through a stage in their late teens/early 20's where going out, getting drunk, going to university, meeting the ladies... Takes over and everything else gets pushed to one side or in my case, sold.

It wasn't until my second year of University that I got back into collecting through the 2009 movie. That movie reignited my passion for Star Trek in a massive way. The first opening 10 minutes just blew me away. By that time though DST had the Star Trek line and I wasn't really that impressed by it. Thinking that Playmates would return to the Star Trek universe in a big way I bought the entire line of Playmates toys and quickly realised that they were not very good. Besides the ship, I got rid of the lot.

I guess between 2009 and 2013 my collecting was a bit all over the place. I would jump from dabbling in a few DST Trek items to buying LEGO sets, Star Wars Lego, ships and figures, to the recent Star Trek Kre-O sets. Nothing has really stuck as much as that Art Asylum line back in 2001-03 though and so my collecting dried up again.

Over the last year though I've begun to look at DST again. I picked up their Select Kirk, Picard and Spock and absolutely fell in love with them. Their Klingon Bird of Prey and Enterprise B/Excelsior ships are brilliant and I've just picked up a re-issue of the E and D which seem far better than the ones I remember from 2008. This past weekend I picked up the Enterprise A and Select Worf. Both of which just look incredible. The Enterprise A is superb and a great improvement on the 2003 original from Art Asylum and I am so looking forward to their re-issue of the NX-01.

I hope to see DST continue to deliver the quality Star Trek product they seem to be doing right now and carry on improving with every ship and figure that comes our way! Also I very much hope that after two less than impressive lines from Playmates and Hasbro respectively, DST finally get a chance to produce or co-produce/design toys based on the JJ Abrams movies so that we finally have an incredible Star Trek toy line that touches on all of the incarnations of this franchise.

Anyway, that's me and I hope to see you all out there.

LLAP.
