Pretty much. Casino Royale was the first 007 novel and the film was made in such a way. Bond got his 00 status in that movie, implying that it was starting at the beginning. If Trek XI has as much success as Casino Royale, then this could be the beginning of a new era in Star Trek (ooooo how dramatic lol).

That is what James Bond has done about every 5 to 10 years. But alot of Bond followers complain when a new Bond is brought in. Just not as bad as Trek fans. LOL. The new Bond is pretty good and I think it will work good for Trek as well. Although some of the more "die hard" TOS loyalists are going to hate it no matter what. I have already seen them bashing everything released so far on other forums. And that is before a real trailer has even hit theatres. People like that will never be able to give it an unbiased judgment. I think that is one of the reasons Abrahms and the studio decided to do a reboot the way they are doing it. Instead of trying to recreate everything button for button like some people seem to want.

James Bond fought in WWII. I doubt Pierce Brosnan's Bond was a WWII vet. Or Timothy Dalton's. Dalton's Bond adventures were also different as he went after more realistic villains compared to the previous Bonds. We were just never shown an origin story of how James Bond became a 00 agent until Casino Royale. But they've been doing reboots of Bond for years.

Well I'm sorry, but I think completely abandoning continuity is like a slap in the face to fans of the TNG-era series. I was all for a "filling in the blanks" and even an updated imaging..but not a complete reset.

I think we have both strayed off course of this topic and are beginning to rehash old arguments. Lets try to keep the topic on the pictures being released and not the philospohy of reboots.

Well well. I see more people are in agreement with me that 40 years of continuity ties the hands of the writers behind their backs and that Trek needs a Casino Royale/Batman Begins kind of a reboot.

Since i was not fond of either of those movies, i vote no to a complete reboot. I am willing to see the new movie and the Leonard Nimoy inclusion makes me a lot more hopeful for a good movie, but i cant say as of yet that i will be happy with it though.

Look at the picture of the young Spock above and tell me if I am imagining this or not. Look closely at the pattern on the uniform fabric. It appears to be made up of tiny delta shield shapes repeated over the fabric! Interesting coincidense, or purposeful detail? Hmmmm.....

Yes you are right. All of the colored unifroms have the pattern in the fabric.

There was a special special screening in London today of 20 minutes worth of footage. TrekMovie.com has an article with descriptions of the scenes shown. Sounds great to me! You can read it HERE

Plus, the first shot of the new Enterprise on EW's site. I love it!

Wow those nacelles are funky looking. Its almost a kitbash between some new age space ship and the classic movie enterprise. The more I read about this movie the more I like it. The reports I read about the trailer (Im not sure if they were confirmed) all seem very interesting. Basically I loved the trekmovie pics released a few weeks ago and this new info only get me more excited. After reading some of the comments on trekmovie, many are upset but honestly i cant see how anyone was expecting everything to look exactly the same as the old 60s trek. They had to update it but they are still keeping the spirit of the orginal tek....i would a lot along the lines of hlow BSG updated it tek. I think I may have to put in for a personal day to go check this out at a midnight showing when it hits.
