Attention guests, and some that may be current members. This post is to make everyone aware of some efforts that have been going on behind the scenes, daily, for some time to keep this forum free of spamming.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In an effort to reduce the amount of new members signing up to do nothing but place an ad on this forum for their products, all new members, before given membership, will have to confirm their e-mail and then will be placed into the Admin Member Validation Queue. While the staff here hates to do this, on average this forum receives 3 + new members that check out to be spammers daily. They range from hardcore porn sites to sellers of medications to people that want to offer trips on a cruse.

To make my point, this morning there were 6 new members that signed up for admission and 5 checked out to be spammers.

If you signed up and for some reason you were mistaken for a spammer, I encourage you to sign back up with a personal e-mail address.

Also, all new change of e-mail address have to be approved by the Admin staff in the Admin panel. This will stop someone from signing up and then changing to their business account e-mail.

Lastly, this forum will not tolerate spamming. If the staff here believes that your post, more so if it's your very first post, serves no other purpose then spamming, your account will be closed.

If you have any questions, please contact a staff member, or you may e-mail me at owner @ trektoy.com

Bump for some of those that are signing up. NOTE if you are signing up with something other then a personal type e-mail address, more then likely you will not be approved. While some rather use their work e-mail address, and I can understand this, sometimes it can be very hard to tell the difference.

I hope that everyone understands,
FHC

We had 5 registrations this morning and 4 of them were spammers...Mark and myself do the best we can to determine if a person registering is legit or a spammer but with SO many spammers out there it is getting more and more difficult.

I have recently heard of a "nest" of spambots being tucked away as registered members on boards for weeks or months and then all of them going active on the same day, that could mean 100's of bogus posts to deal with all at once, that is why Mark and I work so hard to ensure that we try and keep them out of here.

We want to maintain a "Spam Free Zone"....smile.gif

We appreciate all the work you guys do to keep this place nice and fresh-smelling, but those darn spambots are everywhere. I even got a spam message in my university inbox today ~ I couldn't believe it! mad.gif

Yes, it is very refreshing not to deal with all the ads. Thanks for the hard work!

If your thinking of signing up then read teh first post. If you do not make it through then try a personal e-mail or contact me at

owner at trektoy.com of course the @ was replaced it "at" so spam bots do not pick it up.

As for the others, if you make it through and post some spam you will be removed with no questions asked.

Approaching close to 50 banned email Addys at present, I am pushing close to 100 on the prop board. They are out to spam us, but we are thus far winning the battle...wink.gif

I just want to say thanks to the mods and admins who are working to keep the spam out.

I've been posting on another toy-related forum lately, and let's just say their efforts have not been anywhere near as successful.

Thanks!

Wanted to bump this up so that would be spammers or real want to be members, if you read this, understand. At this time there are, on average, 20 + people signing up a day. Therefore I don't have time to screen everyone as well as I would like. The screening needs to be fast and dirty, so some general rules if your signing up.

If you sign up with a name such as

onebigone

you will not get in

If you sign up with some sort of .com email address and the .com does not come up,

you will not get in.

If by chance you are a person that would like to join and has not gotten through for some reason, you might need to use a personal email address when you sign up. You can change it later.

Thanks,
FHC
