While I love my Playmates Toys U.S.S. Defiant, I would happily put her into the mothball fleet if DST decided to make one. They could really knock it out of the park. There should be no issues with moving parts since none are needed. Just give us a great sculpt, great paint apps, great registry/pennant apps and give her deflector, buzzard collector, warp, and impulse lights, and a play cover for those who want to hang the ship, and you'll have some happy fans.

I did the same thing as you Kor`Tar`, I mothballed my Playmates Defiant and I miss her.

You are right with the moving parts, there is no need for them..I think the Playmates nose moved, but I don't recall any reason why except changing the bulb inside the Nav Deflector.

Indeed a Great Sculpt, with very straight forward registry and color.

I must confess I would like to see a DST Defiant have light up like DST can light Ships up.

Bussard Collector, Nav Deflector..Impulse Engines (having seen the Filming Model I am going to with the position rendered by an artist in this Thread and Tobias Richter's CGI Renders.

The tricky thing again is the weapons.

The Pulse Phaser Canons Lighting up as LEDs would be sweet! Four forward firing LEDs would be an awesome site!

Any additional lighting would be tricky.

Again I thank the guys at ex-astris-scientia for helpers.

Regarding the studio model version of the ship, and pardoning my ignorance of how DST goes about doing things, there are quite a few 'spot-on' CG models available online now that perfectly capture the original version of the ship, and get away from the incorrect CG-version used occasionally in the show (and also, that one episode of Voyager which had the Prometheus).

I might be getting mixed up here, but I'm sure I read somewhere that Tobias Richter was either helping, or being lined up to help, with DS9's Blu-Ray HD-ificiation. Whether I'm right or not, his CG models are stunning, take a look:

Example 1:
This is his Defiant model.

Example 2:
This is his Rio Grande/Runabout model (just randomly, how lovely is it to see the interior!)

And for those who like their Defiant with less D, and F, and more R and L, take a look:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WZh4aFb0S9M (Click here for HD)
Stunning.

I'd love his CG models to be used in a video game (like a modern version of Bridge Commander, or a better, more up-to-date version of Legacy).

His models are still too high-detail for even modern games, but you should check out the Bridge Commander community - they have modellers of the highest calibre with very exacting eyes for detail churning out ships left, right, and centre. They've been going for the last decade.

The Defiant ortho's I posted are a model for the game - an incomplete model, at that, but that guy Saquist's project to derive the Defiant studio model's true lines started in the Bridge Commander community, and Farshot's Defiant represents it's purest yet fruition.

Tobias' is as-near-as-dammit to the studio model, but he took liberties with several aspects, and the ship seems a touch more hefty around the middle. They are all very minor divergences.

You are correct, Tobias is CBS-Digital's go-to-guy for ship models. He has provided them with an unparalleled Enterprise-D, Klingon Vor'Cha class attack cruiser, Constellation class, and more - and usually anticipates their needs (as with his recent Defiant, Runabout, and DS9 station), by completing models before he's asked for them. He also wisely seeks community input while building them, so that the hive mind of techie trechies such as ourselves can weigh in and point out his misinterpretations.

Why Tobias Richter's company...to my knowledge has not been used in Star Trek Television series I will never know.

oh...that is right..JJ is in charge and no TV series planned..Rats.

With regard to his renders which are...INCREDIBLE, I still hold fast to using a film Model first before going to CGI to build a Starship Toy.

That being said, I highly doubt any future Star Trek Ship will be built as a film model and be built into a CGI Film Render.

Tobias, made some choices on his Defiant Flyby. One thing I noticed was some AZTECA used on the hull.

I think this was done in an artistic sense, I mean if you had the talent to detail a ship more on a computer than the Old Fashioned film Model. One probably would.

ShipNerd, in my post just before yours, I mention that Tobias Richter's models are being used in the TNG blu-ray project.

When the blu-ray team cannot find some piece of effects footage, or if some piece of footage fails to live up to HD resolution, they recreate it in CGI using Tobias Richter's models.

For example, a shot during the saucer separation sequence in "Encounter At Farpoint" was replaced with a render of a Richter model. The film for that shot was re-scanned for use in Generations, and may have been lost at that time.

At the moment, I regard TNG HD as the definitive TNG, so, to me, Richter's models definitely are being used in a Star Trek Television series.

However, your point about there being no current TV series (and that being a bad thing) is well received.

Destructor, this is why I suggested that DST might be better off waiting for DS9

The one thing I've always noticed during Encounter at Farpoint's saucer seperation sequence is or maybe the reconection is one of the Stardrive's Bussard Ramscoops isn't illuminated. It has always bugged me.

It's funny you mention the Captain Worf show idea. After I read the interview I took it upon myself to create a facebook page in support of it. I also created one in support of a Seth McFarland animated series.

https://www.facebook...247367205330532

They may not do any good other than being useless facebook pages, but maybe if enough people like the pages and get talking about them, the big wigs at CBS may take notice. It's worth a shot.

That's funny, I didn't notice the dark Bussard collector, but I was bugged when I noticed that from some angles, the windows on the lower saucer to the starboard of the dorsal connect are lit, and from others they are not!

Have you checked the Bussard in the HD version? CBS-D have been quite diligent in correcting the 2-foot model's occasionally blue bussards.

I pray to GOD that they get the sculpt right for the Defiant. Even John Eaves came out and said that Playmates, AMT/Ertl, etc. got the design wrong. Nobody can seem to get the darn thing right lol. I have waited many a year for her to be done justice. Here's to hoping. *fingers crossed*

It's from the re-connection sequence... as seen here.

It was corrected for the HD version.

If you look closely you can see the factory legal copy on the underside of the saucer section on the Bluray edition of the D filming model... Joking smile.gif

Its a shame it wont be a alien ship.  You cant tell me a Klingon battle cruiser from the first movie would not sell like hot cakes.  Its not been done in this scale.

I'm putting my money on Defiant as the next release followed by a battle damaged version and a Previews exclusive Valiant.  A Voyager will show up afterward with a similar release schedule and maybe even doing a very limited run Bellerophon repaint.

I know it catches a lot of heat, but I still wish someone would do an accurate, affordable JJprise.  Yes, I'm a fan but the $5k for the QMx studio scale is just a little outside my budget. :)

It would be cool if they could do a Borg modified Voyager.

Well, unfortunately, DST lacks the JJtrek licence, but if you're handy with glue, paint, and perhaps the soldering iron, Revell are bringing out a large-scale model of it (their previews have an awful paintjob, IMO).

QMx will undoubtably put out a collector scale version of the Enterprise (12 - 15 inches long) in due course and if you ask me, if you want a proper replica of the ship thats gonna be far more accurate than a toy then go with QMx (although that could still end up setting you back £200)
