Between Aoshima and DeAgostini, the Enterprise D is getting a lot of love in Japan these days!

Check out this beautiful MONSTER!

The interior of the model is made up of 42 transparent decks with the official deck plans (as revised specifically for this model by Rick Sternbach).

All the info that exists about this is found in a 29-second Japanese commercial. Rick Sternbach is bound by an NDA, so he is remaining tight-lipped on the subject.

By the looks of the box shot at the end of the ad, it comes pre-painted. If it looks like it does in the ad, though, that's magnificent!

Some parts of it look a little boxy, in their proportions, but overall, it's a real beaut.

The price is shown at the end of the video:

But 790 yen comes out at less than 100 euro, which seems CRAZY cheap, so I'm guessing the symbol beside 790 is a multiplier of some sort... Anyone care to interpret that for the rest of us?

Edit: I just noticed the little (1) on the cover of the box there, and remembered who DeAgostini are! It's a magazine series - one part per issue... crikey, if this gets released over here, DeAgostini might just see some of my cash for once!

HOLY #@$@#$%^ Thats sweet. I wonder if its one of those candy toy things, where you have to by a bunch of random packs in order to get the full set, like the furuta ships

I'm pretty sure it's a weekly/monthly magazine thing. A handful of parts each issue, with a factfiles-style folder-filler to sweeten the deal (marginally).

You know, where they give you issue one for half the usual price, then the rest are priced outrageously, the price keeps fluctuating, you miss one issue and suddenly the saucer section won't stay on, and then they cancel the magazine before you build the nacelles.

In the end, if you're lucky, and they don't cancel the magazine, you'll have paid the entire GDP of Greenland for the model.

That's cynical, but not entirely innacurate. If there's a way to just buy the whole darn thing up front, I'd rather go that route, as I'm sure most people would.

Well crud.

DeAgostini cancelled the magazine before it saw the light of day. I guess that's what they get for launching it in a low-Trek-penetration market like Japan.

Rick Sternbach has taped together the sample he recieved, and posted a picture on Modellers Miniatures and Magic.

There's an article about this over on 8of5's guide, including English language page samples and words with the erstwhile editor of the magazine, Tim Leng.

EDIT: More info in another two articles on that site! Damn, I'm sad it got canned!
Article one, and Article two.
