I am leaning towards the ds9 uniform before they switched over to the first contact style. I can't seem to find those anywhere other than the custom made ones on ebay...
I do like the boomerang style phasers though...

The TNG style uniform was used throughout DS9, so the boomerang can go with it as well as the cobrahead. Just use the later combadge with the boomerang. The cobrahead can be used while wearing either combadge since both combadges were used on both the TNG and the DS9/Voyger uniforms during both combadge eras. FC type uniform, of course, has to use the later combadge with the boomerang.

Why the red tip? Safety? Ppl might mistake it for an actual weapon, hmm yeah they could. Kinda looks like a taser...

The sound, however, on them is supposed to be excellent. So a little paint and it should make for a decent piece.

Yes, just grab a phillips head screw driver that matches the size of the screws holding the shell of the phaser together underneath and remove them all , once you have it open you'll see that the clip itself is screwed onto the bottom half of the shell from the inside , unscrew that bit and the clip should come right off .
Then put it back together , and put the screws back and you should be all set .

but woldn't that leave a loophole in the shell?

There is a big slot where the clip goes, but it isn't an eyesore or anything when the clip is removed. If you don't like the way it looks, you can always put the clip back. Or, if you want to put some work into it, you can putty it in and repaint everything.
