#43501 AGT NCC-1701-D Preorder and new picture

Posted by NCC-1701 on 21 July 2009 - 12:54 AM in AA / DST

What are the chances......I purchase 2 ENT Ds, and 2 AGT ENTs. And, I get one lemon ENT D, and one malformed AGT ENT. Go figure!  rolleyes.gif

Anyway, DST will replace my ENT D, but I just found out that they cannot replace the AGT ENT. I'll have to work with the seller to replace that ship, and the seller will have to work with Action Figures.

#43153 AGT NCC-1701-D Preorder and new picture

Posted by NCC-1701 on 13 July 2009 - 08:13 PM in AA / DST

Ok, I finally received my AGT Ent D. It's a nice ship. Personally, I think that it looks meaner than the regular D, and it looks more like a warship. I really think that it's the best starship to date; better than the regular D.

The BIG negative on the ship was the quality control of the ship. My ship was beat up. It looked as though the ship was kicked around the factory before they packaged it. I've got skid marks on the bottom, and on the third nacllle. The third nacelle even looks like a reject. There appears to be a bit of melting on the nacelle at the front. These are big negatives and I'm probably going to try and get a replacement from DST.

If I decide to keep it, does anyone know what color comes close to, or matches the shade of the ship?

This is to JonWes, thanks for that recommendation! Those guys were a little slow on shipping, but they were good overall. smile.gif

#42379 Megan Fox as "Fathom"?

I dont know I look at the successful DC movies and I see well known people. Examples: Heath Ledger, to some extent Bale, Oldman, Liam Neeson. I think you need a mix of the two between unknown and known. For bigger flicks you can get away with unknown people because people will go see them naturally. For smaller flicks like GL maybe WW, you need a healthy mix to get people interested. Once again I think Marvel has done a wonderful job casting most of their movies and I can think of very few that were not done well (Ghost Rider for instance).

Ghost Rider was horrible! I like Nicholas Cage as an actor; as he's grown and matured from his cheesy 80s teen flicks. But, he just wasn't the Ghost Rider. At one time, he was even being considered for Superman (post Christopher Reeves). Thank god that feel through. Did anyone ever see Nick Fury? A real stinker with David Hasselhoff.

Marvel for the most part has done alright with their casting, but they had dropped the ball too. Not to step on anyone's toes here but Kirsten Dunst as Mary Jane was all wrong. Kirsten is just not that pretty and has a weird peculiar face. Her eyes are so unattractive, and when she gazes at you, or looks directly into the camera, it's like run for the hills. Again, I hope that I didn't offend any of her fans here. Famke Jansen as Jean Grey was also bad IMHO. She looked like Cylop's mother, rather than a love interest. She was too old for that role.

Hollywood goes too much with the flavor of the month club, and they forget that the actors have to have some type of resemblance to the comic character; and that they have to fit the characters' demographics. A fourty something playing a twenty something is hard to sell.

Speaking of Megan Fox, Tomb Raider, and Angleina Jolie, check this out.

It more than about having a great body with Megan Fox, she has a really beautiful face. Her beauty even seems to overwhelm Angelina's beauty. JMHO biggrin.gif

Mine was pretty tight until the first time I repositioned it. After that, it became very loose and now it can only be positioned with the saucer pointing in extreme upwards.

I really hate these stands. In about 6 months after extensive handling, the knob on the neck will probably break or crack (happened on my Enterprise and Enterprise Cage). I sort of like the Ent E stands better, but not by much.

There is a big difference between a $15 action figure and a $400 prop replica. If there are flaws on a $30 DST Enterprise, I can understand. It's just a toy and in a production line of 20.000-30.000 units or more, defects are bound to happen and QC can slip a bit. But an MR studio scale Enterprise for $1200 or more and a production run of only about 3000, done in several small batches should have better QC and better quality. It's supposed to replicate a filming model after all and should have detailing to match. And, after spending that $1200, minimum, MR didn't even have a great warranty to back it up.

Both companies are small, I understand that. I understand that both companies have limited resources. However, one company makes mid-range level toys and, IMHO, succeeds at that level for the most part. The other company claimed to make high end replicas and barely lived up to either standard.

I've always said you get what you pay for. You pay $15, $30, $50 for something then it is what it is. But if you pay $500, $1000, $2000 for something and the quality still isn't there, then there really is a problem. I think DST's products are good for the level and for the price. MR rarely reached the level and the price they were aiming for with their product. If it weren't for the TOS tricorder and the FC phaser, the MR Trek line would have been mediocre at best. Even then, with bad electronics, you end up with an expensive paperweight.

You certainly can't make too many complaints about the Enterprise-D. For $50, it is quite an impressive piece. For $50 you can forgive some missing paint applications and a cerrtain number of bad sound chips. They made thousands upon thousands of these. A detail or two is bound to slip through the cracks. It's not a studio scale model. Imagine the same problems, however, on a $1200 MR Enterprise filming replica where they made a fraction of the quantity and, even then, only made them at about 100 at a time with a lot of hand assembly.

I am in compete agreement with the opinions expressed above.

Wow! Now, that would be a MUST see for me. Megan Fox is a FOX.

I hope that they also choose her for Wonder Woman (if that movie ever gets off the ground).

Hey TheHSBR,

I appreciate that sugestion; but one thing would bother me greatly, the amount of accurate details. I'm not a fanatic about details, but I do appreciate them in the things I collect. The Hot Wheels are OK, but not something that I'd buy. I do have the JL lines, but that was just something that I fell into from the first series. Now, just because I have them from series 1, I sort of feel obligated to continue collecting them.

Now the Corgi Enterprise would fit this bill that you had suggested. The ship is not great; but it has pretty decent details. I've used the AMT Enterprise 3 ship kit as a reference, and the Corgi is just a bit to small I think. About 30% too small.

On a different note, I would love DST to do something with the Battlestar Galatica ships. I especially love the original Galatica series, and would love to have that ship as a toy prop with lights and sounds. smile.gif

Amended: I just pulled out my Star Trek Encyclopedia, and the Corgi Enterprise ship is almost spot on in scale to the Ent D. Too bad Corgi stopped making Trek ships. sad.gif

You could try to assemble one yourself with the Hotwheels line and lines like Johnny Lightning you might be able to comre pretty close on a lot of the ships.  It wont be exact but you could a general display going.

Ok, another small negative, but it's not a mood killer for me. My speaker or sound chip is horrible. Picard sounds like Worf. The details and lighting more than make this a winner for me

Guys, do you realize how much fodder we're giving to DST for future ship sales? smile.gif I hope DST appreciates this and throws some perks our way! wink.gif

I see your points and I agree. Maybe when they exhaust their ideas of ship offerings, they'll consider in-scale ships (lol in 5 to 10 years!). And. I hope that they offer packs. An in scale Enterprise is around the size of a nacelle on the D.  So a 2 or 3 pack of ships will do. Like packaging the Cage, WNMHGB, and regular Enterprise together. Just a fun thought to ponder!

Also, the E is more a warship, and the D is an exploratory vessel with families, and other facilities the E wouldn't need.

QUOTE (LT CMDR DATA @ Jun 27 2009, 12:18 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
well we know that the E is starfleet's most advance ship, i think the reason its small is because since it has a slimer neck the height is small but longer and that lately a few new ship such was the voyger, equinox and defiant are becoming smaller, which means that smaller is better than bigger who knows. i still love the E its still my favorite but seeing it in scale with the D is a surprise to me, just saying.

Thanks guys. smile.gif

Another thing that I absolutely love is the scale accuracy between the D and E. I really appreciate that aspect.

I also hope that they continue that trend with the B and C Ents. And, in the future, I would love to have in scale Enterprise and Ent A ships. With the size differential from ship to ship, you can really appreciate the superiority of each ship, as they are upgraded.

Shocking that T'pol recieved so few votes so far. She was probably one of the better actresses of the franchise, and not only was she good looking, but she was pure and raw sex appeal on Enterprise. She was definitely the only Trek character that had the most riskay cleavage scenes of all the Trek series. The guys had T'pol, and the girls had Tucker. smile.gif

#42152 Enterprise 1701-D

Posted by NCC-1701 on 26 June 2009 - 09:54 PM in AA / DST

Ok, I received my ships today and this is by far the best DST ship to date. It is well worth the money spent even with the window issue.

My one negative is the stand. It's still too flimsy, and the base could have been a made a little more wider or longer at the base. When you position the ship where the weight shifts to any side, it tilts over. That could have bee resolved with a wider base. The neck of the stand where the ship connects to the base also needs to be improved a bit IMHO. The ship itself is just fabulous.

Now, in the Trek world, when comparing the Ent D to the Ent E, the E really stinks. I never realized that the E was so much smaller than D. To me, the E seems like a downgrade when compared to the D.

Now for the future, I hope that DST keeps the trend of the blue and red lights with the Ent B and C. I am also hoping that they upgrade and re-release the Ent A and E with the new lighting. It makes so much of a difference having the nacelles light up.

Lefler was a fox, it's just a shame that she had to star with Will Wheaton....j/k....maybe. wink.gif Btw, I read somewhere that they really dated around the time of her cameo on TNG. it was a hot and heavy thing from what she said. Ashley Judd is still a fox!

Now about Framke Jansen, I know an older man that plays the roles of extras on TV shows and movies. He's mature and in his 60s, and he fits in as a background actor. He's always on Law and Order. Well, he met Framke Jansen in a shoot for a movie, and he did not have nice things to say about her. He said she was a skank, and this came from a man whom is kind when he talks about people. On another note, he said Jennifer Espisito was a beautiful person, with a fabulous body. And, Alana de la Garza was also beautiful inside and out. She had a very quirky laugh that made people take notice.

Ok, back on topic! how about Olivia D'Abo, and a very very young Nikki Cox before 'Unhappily Ever After'....way before.

Yeah...that's the ticket...Ensign Robin Lefler....Rob-bin...Robin Lefler...babe-o-roni. I had just dated myself, and if anyone else remembers the character from SNL who did this, we are both in the same boat. Thanks VF for remembering that name! smile.gif

TNG had a lot of upcoming stars that had made cameos on the show. Teri Hather, a young Ashley Judd, a young Famke Jansen, and a few others. wub.gif

That was a tough vote between 7of9 and T'pol. As far as guests, Leeta and Marlena Moreau were tough to pick from.

How about Ashley Judd as Ensign _______?

The hand grips look like GI-Joes. And, agreed that for 120.00, they look pretty inferior. I wonder how much of the inflated 120.00 price tag is due to the licensing fee. sad.gif

I just saw this on the BBTS site. Dragon is releasing TNG figures. The facial details look good (so far), but the bodies look like GI Joe dolls.

Here's the link.
