On the first day, my friend Roy came over and helped and so, everything starts somewhere and so does this.

First we had to build some saw horses!

Ok now that's done, lets see them plans, printed out full size and taped together to make a full size blueprint.

Of course Roy being Roy trusts his own skills more then cutting out and tracing the blueprints though. I trust him better too! We are now starting to see parts!!

The full size blueprints are still very cool to look at but taping them all together was a pain in the ......

Today I screwed the circles to the bottom of the floor and used my belt sander to help make then all a bit more rounded and match up a little better. I'm thinking that will help a great deal when I go to bend ( ??? ) around the curves. I wonder what would be good for that. Anyone got a suggestion? I haven't put any thought to what I'm going to bend around them yet!

Then I finished gluing the last of the sides and screwed them back on.

So I just had to flip it over to see what it looked like! I know it don't look like much yet, but hey I'm moving forward!!

Cutting some boards to strengthen the cradle.

Measure twice, drill 4 times.

Attached the swivel to the base.

Place the cradle over the bolts and spin on the wing nuts

Well today I was putting the other side on and I decided that I wanted to make sure that I was the first person to set in the chair.

Do I get extra geek bonus point for the jersey? LOL

That is really sweet and it looks like its going to turn out pretty good. Are you going to get real leather and finishing wood for it?

Looks like its coming along nicely, probably cost less then $2,000 to eh? Plus you have the satisfaction of having built it yourself.

Will you add sound effects?

Also in that picture you remind me a little of commodore Decker...

keep the updates coming...

Yes is in time I have have lights and sound. One member at the Trek Prop Zone said joking that it looked like the opening of ST II making me Kirk's Daddy!! roflmao.gif The cost at this time, with me reusing a ton of stuff I already had, is about $100.00 plus hours and hours of labor. I hope to have it done for under $200.00 I'm keeping a total and when I get it finished, or at least finished the first round, I'll post it.

These plans came to me by way of a member of the staff on the Trek Prop Zone from discussions that he and many others had on the the Replica Prop Forum that took place over the last few years.

Here's today's work.

Added in some side to side pieces for more area to glue to as well a a touch more strength. Glue it up and get ready to apply the skin.

Held on with lots of glue and a few nails. I used a punch to knock them right below the surface so I can hide them.

LOL If you have a circular saw, and a belt sander and a scroll saw, and a table saw and a really good drill, and really want to do this, I can get you the same PDF that I'm building mine from. Some 1/2" plywood and you're off.

Last Wednesday's work.

Continued from above....

Sunny day here in Indiana.... so I got some work done on this!!!!! The dogs were gone and I locked the wife in the pen, wait reverse that!

Anyway

I mark and cut of course, then I drill a very shallow holes for the nails to sink into.

Then I glue and hammer in the nails. After that, I use a punch to put the nails below the surface. I could use the punch to make the shallow holes, but for me, the drill offers more control. It would be pointless to go through the board.

Moving along
