I really love my DST AGT Enterprise D.... I decided to give it shaded Aztec panels..... Obviously it would be almost impossible to paint them on as the windows would be painted over.... So I finally came up with a solution..... Colored Artist Pencils !!!

I am using a very light gray pencil that slightly contrasts the main hull color.... the pencil gives me the maneuverability to get around all the details and actually goes on quite evenly as long as you take your time and dont press too hard.

I will post some pics ASAP.... I basically have 75% of the top of the saucer done with about 2 hours work... This is tedious stuff !!! I like the results though....

That really does look nice. Will it need to be sealed or dull coated when it is done?

Amazing. Would do this in a heartbeat with my normal D, but I'll have to find the time. Maybe one day. :)

That looks really good!  Can you give us details on the pencils that you are using?  I'm strongly tempted to follow suit.

I don't mind that it is time consuming.  I find doing repetitive tasks like that are really actually quite relaxing after a long day of mental work.

I recall filling in the windows of my old Enterprise-E with pencils. Then redoing them with a gundam paint pen. Then doing the windows of my new Enterprise-E with that same paint pen. If there is something I can do, it's tedious detail work on starships. lol

These are pretty nice looking ships out of the box but it really is amazing what a difference just a little time and effort make. It turns a good ship into one that really pops. I cant wait to see the end result.

Thanks guys !!!

Malloc.... I am using Prismacolor Verithin Artist Pencil .... I ended up using white as it strongly dissipates and becomes a light grey once applied.

Remember not to cake on the pencil... it is more waxy and will cake on.but if you rub gently and apply evenly it ends up looking like paint.
