UK's Popco are making a 3 3/4" line for the novel(s) turned movie "The Golden Compass" starring Nicole Kidman.

Whilst popco were unable to distribute their Potter line outside of Europe due to the Neca range, The Golden Compass line will have a regular wide release & I believe have already been found in the US.

I don't know anything about The Golden Compass. Being dyslexic, I don't read much...& I hadn't really heard anything about the movie till I saw this new toyline yesterday. So it's pretty much Popco's involvement that has me interested...& the idea of owing a Nicole Kidman figure, who I've always had a thing for (surprise, surprise...she's a red head! biggrin.gif ).

Here are some of the figures: you can see the rest at play.com
Nicole Kidman as Marisa:

Daniel Craig (Bond) as Lord Asriel

Lyra

Tony

Ragnar

Serafina Pekkula

Lee Scorsby

The Ice cave Fortress playset was apparently shown at a Toy Fair, but there has been no word on it...it may have been dropped.

I believe they are teaming up with Corgi for this venture, so there will be various miniatures as well.

So, any thoughts on these toys or The Golden Compass in general?

The only reason I want to see it is for that small clip I have seen in previews where the bear knocks over a wolf in mid pounce!

The movie has potential. I'm hoping I'm not disappointed by it. for 3 3/4 scale those look to be pretty good likeness of the actors, which is encouraging, but I doubt I'll be interested in purchasing toys from the movie. I'm too excited for Indiana Jones and Iron Man Movie Figures!

That ice fortress looks like a Batcave playset that came out years ago, wonder if its the same mold that Toybiz used.

That ice fortress might also make a pretty cool Hoth Rebel base!

I'm still trying to find out about these figures articulation.
I'd imagined they'd be the same as the Potter line, though the proto's above sport very little movement.

I really hope they have good movement or I will not be buying them.

I was thinking the playset may have been thought to be too big, but the figures are only 3 3/4" tall, so it shouldn't be much bigger (overall) than the Great Hall playset for Potter.

Apparently the book for this movie was called "Northern Lights". The writer called the whole series he was writing "The Golden Compasses", but a US chap got mixed up & the book was released under the name "The Golden Compass" in America & Canada. They decided to name the movie the US title, to be less confusing to the the US & Canada...those poor simple guys!! laugh.gif

I jest, I understand...it's a US production.

Judging by the pics you posted, it looks like they don't have much articulation at all, Art! unsure.gif

^I'd say judging from the pics that they'll have articulation similar to the Buffy lines...limited arm and head movement and no leg movement to speak of.

Reports say they are more limited in their movement, but they do have some.

I believe I'll still pick them up, the line is really nice.

I think the likeness is awesume, and if you can swap heads, you might have some good looking characters for other lines as well. Hope the Ice set does come out, you are right, it will make a great Hoth!

I can't seem to find any interest in this movie at all. sad.gif I will say the likeness of Kidman is good. Seems like they are shooting for the kid crowd with this one though.

the story line is that they are on a quest to kill God because he is old and not needed anymore.

HOWEVER

as we all know a topic can change on a dime and I DO NOT want to have this start heading down the road as to if that is a Ok subject for a "kids" movie. Let's stay on the figures.

They are 3 3/4" Chalkman.

Michael Crawford reviews series 1:

They all look really good, though Lyra is not near as nice as the others (face wise). Hopefully we'll be able to see a few further attempts at the character.

Really love that Sam Elliot figure!

Okay, okay. Not going to anger the FHC. But for anyone interested in further reading, HERE is a fairly decent and even article about the movie and the topic of the books. If you want to discuss, PM.

Intersting article Wildcard, thanks.
I guess thats something folk aren't supposed to talk about right? religion & politics...the evil topics!! (interestingly) dry.gif So I'll say nothing, but please feel free to PM me your opinion. I'd love to talk about it.

JonWesley over at the Fwoosh forums has found Lee's Balloon. I had thought it was an item for the miniature Corgi line, but is it for the figures...& looks really good.

Rest of his pics over at Fwoosh showing how damn big this thing is!!:

I have admin on message boards for well over 5 years almost daily and the one thing that I found to hold true on every single one of them, members of message boards do not discuss religion or politics, well they do for about 5 posts, they start debating and then they get rude and then a moderator has to step in and stop it. Lets just save time, not fight with each other, and pretend that we are done. No matter how much we try to change someone else's mind, we never will and it only causes hurt feelings. I see no point in bringing up to members here my thoughts or lack of thoughts unless I wanted to debate on them. I have thoughts on this subject but yet I keep them to myself because I do not want you to see things my way nor do I want anyone trying to help me see things their way. That is where all discussions like that go to sooner or later. Let's save time and pretend we already had it and we have decided to disagree. smile.gif We are here because we collect action figures. I'm sure that there are forums out there for discussions on if it is a right and proper kids movie.

I hope everyone understands the post above.
