#96113 CBS AA Twlight Zone Discussion

There is a big difference between social commentary and pushing a one sided agenda.

#96111 CBS AA Twlight Zone Discussion

The new show isn't bad and Ive enjoyed it for the most part so far. My only issue is that they are a bit heavy handed with the "political agenda" nonsense. It's getting to where you can't watch anything these days without some agenda.

#96110 New Star Trek Series starring Patrick Stewart

Posted by JMW326 on 30 May 2019 - 05:53 PM in SciFi news.

I always wanted to try my hand at a fanfic novel where Geordi goes on a quest to recover Data's head somewhere out there after being ejected from the Nemesis aftermath and re-assemble him.  Something along the lines of the completion of Data's character arc to become "human", because other humans are willing to (or do) sacrifice their own lives for him...

Now I really don't think that has anything to do with the plot of Picard...
But from what we know so far, I can imagine in my head that's what is going on.  Picard left Starfleet after realizing the total loss of his friend and student in humanity...  and now he's on a quest to assemble a rag tag crew and go put him back together.

Except like I said, I know that's not where it's going.  But fun to imagine?  :P

I had a couple of ideas of a story bringing Data back. The first deals with the Romulan beaming him out as Shinzons shop exploded. So they get half of him. Then for several years try and recreate their own android army but when they get their more advanced prototype up and running Data uploads himself into the new body.

The other deals with Starfleets temporal agency coming back in time and plucking him out right before the explosion and recruiting him as a temporal agent.

I doubt either will happen in Picard but it's fun to imagine. I do hope we get at least one or two cameos from characters from TNG, DS9 or Voyager.

#96100 TWOK Chris Pine Kirk

Posted by JMW326 on 26 May 2019 - 11:50 AM in Custom figures

Do you plan to do a Quinto-Spock in TWOK-Uniform as well?

I may. Depends on if I can pick up another DST Quinto Spock Select figure cheap enough.

That looks awesome! What a great idea! The head-sculpt is indeed very good and fits the TWOK-body well. Thanks for sharing this :)

Thanks, I appreciate it. It was a fun one to do and I think it turned out well.

#96096 TWOK Chris Pine Kirk

Posted by JMW326 on 25 May 2019 - 11:04 AM in Custom figures

I've been having a little fun with customs lately and got an idea to do a Chris Pine Kirk in the TWOK era uniforms. I had to redo the neck since the Kelvin Kirk did not have a neck and demel out the wrist holes to fit decent hands on it and replace the giant hot dog fingered hands that DST put on these. Lol.
I really like how it turned out. I think DST did a great job with Pines likeness. I just darkened up the hair a bit .
If you are one of those people that hate everything Kelvin time line, just keep moving along. Thanks.

I picked up the captains chair on sale from thinkgeek. Man they look great together. I'll have to try Khan in it next.

#95982 Built 1/1000 USS Defiant

Posted by JMW326 on 20 April 2019 - 04:10 PM in Ertl / AMT

I was at Walmart today and walked past a shelf with models on it. I was surprised to find several polar lights Defiant kits and even more surprised to see it for $14.97. Yes. I bought one.

I've been locked out of my account for a while but it finally let me log back in. I was able to fix Spock's freakishly long legs. Now these are two are much closer in height. They look sooo much better now.

I ordered another Kirk. So while I'm waiting for that one to arrive I went ahead and fixed Spock's legs. He looks so much better now.

I also decided to have a little fun with my current Kirks head.

Good question. I'm a 3D modeler and can tell you that it's not that hard to size a model correctly. Lol.

#95899 Kelvin Figures?

After looking them over carefully, I see the problem is with Spock's legs. They are way to long from the knee down. If I can find another Kirk for a decent price I may pick it up and just do a swap. They good news is that the have an upper thigh cut that should make it pretty easy.

I give them credit for not just reusing the same body. That has gotten them criticism in the past. They just need to pay more attention to certain details and ....well, basic anatomy.

Here are some pics. You can see that they are nice on their own but unless you do some creative displaying, the size difference is really noticeable.

#95888 Kelvin Figures?

Posted by JMW326 on 23 March 2019 - 04:46 AM in AA / DST

I got both of the figures he other day. These are a giant step forward for DST but aren't without their problems.
Individually they are both great. The sculpts are great and the paint is very nice. The articulation is far superior to any of DST's past Star Trek figures and they come with a good number of accessories.although the little laser beams that attach to the fronts of the phasers are kind of silly and pointless.
Now for some of the problems.
First they both come with transporter style display stands. Both figures have peg holes in their feet but the stands have no pegs which makes them pretty useless.
The biggest issue I have is DST's scale issues have come up once again. They made Spock a giant compared to Kirk. Quinto and Pine are about the same height with one at 6 feet and the other at 6.1? If you look at stills from the movies they stand pretty even. The figures however do not reflect that at all. If you use the Kirk figure for reference at 6 feet tall that will put Spock a close to 6.9. It's a ridiculous difference that makes them look really bad together. But apart they look great.
So all and all this is a giant step forward for DST's Trek line but they still have some issues to work out.

#95447 Kelvin Figures?

I guess we'll see how well they sell. I wouldn't keep those if they gave me a set for free. Nostalgia sells the most with Star Trek but I can't imagine someone having fond memories from their childhood watching the Abrams travesty trilogy.

If you hate it so much then why in hell would you come into a thread about it? I'll tell you why. You're a nasty little troll. You just want to run your idiot mouth every time someone mentions the Abrams movies. That's pretty much all you do on this forum any more.

I watched season 2 premiere last night. Solid episode. I'm still enjoying the show a lot.

I still haven't seen regular Spock or the Green shirt Kirk. The Romulan is falling off the pegs here. I've seen the gorn a few times too.

#95430 Star Trek - The Official Starships Collection

Anyone know if Eaglemoss is planning to do any discovery ships in scale with the standard Star Trek release?

#95423 Aquaman

Posted by JMW326 on 28 December 2018 - 06:40 AM in SciFi news.

I loved the first Nolan/ Bale Batman but thought the other two were just OK and turned into convoluted messes by the end of each. I've been a fan of the new movies despite some of their faults. Man of Steel and Wonder Woman were great. BvS was decent and Justice League was fun for me. Green Lantern... kind of missed the mark just with casting and that horribly outdated soundtrack. Aquaman really seems like a step up and in the right direction. It rivals Wonder Woman for being the best of the franchise. Yes it was cheesy and over the top but it was sooo fun.

#95421 Aquaman

Posted by JMW326 on 27 December 2018 - 05:42 PM in SciFi news.

I went and saw Aquaman over opening weekend and absolutely loved it. It was fun and very visually pleasing. I'm not one of those people that try and rip apart every DC movie (or just every movie in general lol) so I have enjoyed most of the DC movies before it , but I really think this one set a new bar. To me I would say it's kind of like the Gaurdians of the Galaxy of the DC universe. It was funnier than anything that came before it, it created a whole new visually stunning world and while the movie in general didn't take itself to seriously it still had heart and some good lessons in it. I really want to see it again.
