Has anyone customized either of the figures in the 5 inch playmates size? I want to make them myself but I am having difficulty deciding on what to use as base figures. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I don't know if this helps, but Matt Hackley has done a STIV Kirk and an STIII Spock:

Looks like he used a Sarek-body for Spock and a heavily modified WNMHGB-Kirk-body for Kirk. STIII Spock could also be done with a Bareil-body.

What is WNMHGB-Kirk? What figure is that?

I think it might be, Where no man has gone before

Exactly, that's the one that came with the shuttlepod. Scotty and Sulu from that episode have the same body, and I think The Cage-Spock has the same body, as well.

The best base body for Star Trek IV Voyage Home Spock/Star Trek V "God Planet" Sybok (same costume...) is Vedek Bariel from DS9. Kirk's not tough, but will involve a lot of re-sculpting. I had thought about using that blue Riker from the episode in which he was imprisoned in a mental asylum, but decided to use a casting of the movie era uniforms and sculpt the details from there...
