Coming August 6, 2020! Here's a trailer:

https://youtu.be/V3RkBKedKWw

While I'm not a fan of Rick and Morty, I'll give this the same shot I've given other Trek series. Hopefully it'll be better than Orville. I've waited a long time for an official Star Trek comedy series.

I take it no one knows if this is being shown outside of USA / Canada? No mention of it here in the UK

After watching the first episode, I can't say I'm hooked.

The show reminds me a bit of Star Trek IV, and not in a good way (yet). Rather than creating a comedy that takes place in the Star Trek universe for fans, it seems to make a comedy out of Star Trek for everyone else. Yeah, there are Easter eggs thrown around. Names are dropped. I guess my idea of a Star Trek comedy is something as "cerebral" as the original series.

Since it's not a huge commitment of time, I'll stay tuned in the hopes that the writing picks up. It's rare any show burns from the first frame. Maybe it'll get hotter by the end of the first 10-episode season.

Bottom line: If you like The Orville, you'll probably enjoy Lower Decks.

Did anyone else notice what looked to be a silhouette of a three-legged alien coming out of a turbolift? Could this be the same species as Arex? This was in the Season Trailer at the end of the episode. Just one episode in and I see so much potential for a new toy line that just might get us back to where Star Trek was in the 90s! I only hope the other animated series coming to Nickelodeon will be as good. Lower Decks is exactly the boost Star Trek needed to engage a new generation of Trekkies. It definitely throws bait out there for teenaged fans to explore whats come before without bogging them down in too much of a history lesson. Its also no dumbed down into nonsense or techno-babble. Its fast paced flash cards of nostalgia. I hope there will be a multi platform video game as well.

Yeah I saw what I thought was an Edoan coming out of a turbolift... fingers crossed. Especially with a Caitian chief medical officer.

Just watched episode 2 with my nephew - really good! We laughed our asses off at the clever, deeply-canon-rooted jokes, and it told a good Trek story.

Yes, I enjoyed the second episode more. The end was predictable (I'm old and too familiar with such tropes) but I'm managing my expectations. This is fun Trek.

Episode 3 seemed to be on par with 2. For a comedy aimed at Trekkies I'm not getting any laugh-out-loud moments, mostly winks and nods, maybe a chuckle after a clever reference.

That said, my 15-year-old is enjoying it. I'm proud she's catching so many Easter eggs.

I thought this was better than 2, especially that ending.

The B-plot (buffer time) in the 3rd episode irked me a bit - it hammered itself home too much and made Starfleet seem inept and inflexible. It's absurd that it took a junior ensign to highlight to the captain that this was an inefficient way to run the ship, and ridiculous that everyone stuck to it so rigidly during a crisis.

I liked the rest of the episode fine.

Again, I felt Episode 4 was on par with the previous two. Nothing's really grabbing me but it's not pushing me away either.

I did find this brief article on the California-class ship interesting. Yes, the turboshafts run through the warp nacelles.  :o

While watching it with my 11 year old, I can't help but notice that it's very, very slow moving for a cartoon I would only imagine is somewhat targeted at her age group.  Lots of scenes with techno/sociobabble that frankly bore even me.

I'm honestly not sure this show is aimed at any age group. They do bleep some naughty words but for the most part it seems the only demographic they were aiming for was Trekkies.

My concern is that some of the gags rely so much on Easter eggs, if you haven't studied 50+ years of Trek trivia, it comes off as an inside joke. Non-inclusive comedy isn't very endearing.

The show's growing on me.

When it comes to comedy I'm a tough crowd. I might not find it funny but I do think it's fun. There's also a surprising amount of good old sci-fi in it, from a generation ship to the controlled demolition of a moon.

The characters are slowly dragging me in, too. They didn't hook me immediately the way other the ones on other shows have but they're getting to me.

I even like the design of the USS Vancouver!
