I can see myself snatching some under-scaled figures at a decent price.
Here we go again... Playmates is back in the Trek business!

Yeah, there are some.... interesting sculpts going on here, Data def looks like Zuck, Spock is somehow less realistic than the 1993 TRU figure.
Kirk has a giant smirk and looks about 25 here.
Do Data and Riker have the same torso sculpt, is that what I'm seeing?
Picard seems pretty decent head sculpt and bodywise.

Are they supposed to show off new stuff?

I think that's it. They also brought the TOS Enterprise and TOS phasers.

So all the way back in March Toy News International published images of these mockups of the packaging. And I didn't see them till this morning.

If these are official previews, they are far more retro than I thought they would be, which is pretty nuts in a good way. This is certainly a way to mine retro appeal.

Here's a production view from The Amazons.
Very retro I would say, and strangely more horizontal than ever. Accessories are very retro as well, as these three things are what Data had in 1992. The base is now... somewhat less a communicator badge and more of a rudimentary stand.
Shipping is still quoted as September. Nothing, you'll note, about figures being individually numbered, but nothing about them not being individually numbered. (Do we know?)
Very nice I'd say, more retro than expected. Props to the company for getting the fact that this is a nostalgia-driven line.
[added a few days later] Just dawned on me that as far as "waves" of figures usually go, this is.... not a large wave. Even all of them taken together. I almost want to see just rampant parts sharing with different heads just to see some volume.

A review is up:
I gotta say, I always hated that packaging graphic style when I was young. It was so ugly and gaudy and - gasp! - inaccurate.
I much preferred the later revamp:
Even though it has its flaws too. I would have preferred to see an improved evolution of the same idea rather than a straight re-use of the old graphics. I get why they did it though.

I mocked up a modern version of the same idea because I wanted to.
Older version

I'm guessing you've seen the photos of the variant overseas card backs then?
Uhh, no, could you post them?
Also, I checked Target and two Walmarts in the past two days -- nothing there. (US northeast)

Updated the mockup in the previous post because I kept working on it because why?!?
Also made a wallpaper version of the background image because I think it's pretty!

Here are those Australian packaging variants (though I read over on the Trek BBS that these are showing up for preorder in the UK).

This particular store is one of dubious reputation, so I cant really be sure if these are some kind of "stock images" or if they represent the actual cardbacks the figures will be on.
Oh, and yeah no sightings at Australian retail (but no surprise there!)

Here's how the Discovery figures turned out:
The packaging is lazy AF but the figures look fine to me,

Yup, the generic packaging got cranked up to 11. Remember when the unified cards came out in 1996, and then the Warp Factor packaging -- those were also huge letdowns cause they weren't separated by TV series or movie.
At least we're getting vaguely unique card fronts for TNG and the original movies. If it was just Star Trek Universe for all series, that would be some major BS right there. I feared it would be like that. Discovery getting short changed here is kind of funny though. Plus they only got 2 characters in this whole wave. That's not a confidence-inspiring.

I feel like Discovery was the enabler of this whole new swathe of Star Trek content, but it's so bad everything else tries to distance itself from it.
