#87208 STO Partners with Eucl3D to offer player customizable 3D printed starships

Posted by Will Decker on 08 September 2016 - 02:29 PM

This is some of the most exciting Star Trek merchandise news that I have EVER heard.  I doubt anyone remembers but I went on a rant on this forum a couple of years ago when we were all bitching that yet another comicon or something had gone by and no new ship announcement.

I talked about how GE was going to make all their airplane parts with 3d printing by 2020 and eventually someone would make us starships the same way.

Well, there you go.

And this, as awesome as it is, is only the beginning.

#82121 Rumour: Round 2 readying 1/1000 scale TOS 1701 and D7 pre-painted snap-kits!

Posted by Will Decker on 15 July 2015 - 10:19 AM

Found via a Star Trek modelling group I'm a member of on facebook. Pretty sure the group is locked, so I'll copy the text here. It was posted by Robert Lyons, who covers this stuff for TrekMovie.com - he's also the source of the information I posted on the 1/2500 versions as well. He indicates a new article will be going up soon containing pictures etc, so I'll post the link in here when it's up:

Fantastic news in my opinion! Also some good news for modellers there as well (Excelsior). I'm looking forward to finding out what went wrong with the Akira model as well.

I will buy all of those!

#81903 SDCC 2015

Greetings everyone!

Long time listener, first time caller. I've been excited for the DST Defiant since it was announced and I was able to snag a preorder on EBay for a reasonable price, so, fingers crossed that all pans out... I should have mine by the 25th at the latest. I'll upload some pics when/if she arrives if you guys are interested.  Anyone else plan on picking one up??

P.S. Shout out to Alterean, Prometheus and Will Decker, I practically grew up watching your youtube reviews (not really, but I've been a big fan of your channels since I started collecting DST starships last year.)

Thanks!

We'll do one again soon.  I preordered an sdcc defiant.  Maybe we'll get back on th ball with that one.

#80939 NX-01 Re-Release

Posted by Will Decker on 27 April 2015 - 07:30 PM

I would buy the hell out of the Refit NX-01. I doubt DST would do it, but I would preorder it the second it went up.

I'm just glad Eaglemoss is doing it as a special so we at least get 1 good sized version of her..... Other then the model.

If DST did an NX-01 refit variant I would basically shit twice and die.

I think I'm gonna be singing that song by pharrell williams...

Thanks for the added info Will Decker!

I think we both see the same future coming!

I'll just add this... as I said, the company I work for, GE, is all in on developing and using this technology. So much that they have committed that by 2020 they will have advanced the technology to the point that parts of their aircraft engines will be made this way. So in the future when you fly on an airplane, there is going to be a good likelihood that engines on them were, in part, 3D printed!

Absolutely!  I like your analogy to the music industry.  Can't tell you how many times I paid 14.99 to get a CD with one good song.

We have an industry that simply has to grow to the next level to satisfy consumer demand.  And it will.

There will come a day on this forum, or one like it, where guys like us will be telling the younger guys, "You have know idea, we'd see a picture and then wait a year of two to get the ship!"  and they'll be like, "Oh my God, how could you live like that..."

That's exciting about GE's agenda.  That pretty much locks in the future of additive manufacturing.  If a company of that size and importance is making a massive commitment like that, the future is assured.

DST has zero momentum with the Star Trek line.  Their so timid about what to do next, they continually dump the line on it's face.  Waay too much inactivity.  Their toys are my favorites, but it's always too little too late.

Go look at their Facebook page.  Under almost every SDCC post people are asking what about Star Trek?  Hey DST - that is something you should take notice of.

I saw the video of SDCC as well.  It was ten minutes of who cares.  Kevin Smith?  Minimates?  My little pony?!

DST is undeserving Star Trek fans.  Further, they are afraid of and neglecting their most important license.  They are sitting on "Acres of Diamonds" as the nineteenth century writer Russsell Conwell would say.  If only they would get aggressive and exploit it.  They make great toys that a lot more people would be buying if they knew they existed.

You who they should watch?  NECA.  That's a DST sized company that is showing the right way to do it.  Aliens line?  Pacific Rim line?  Whooo.  And they know how to listen to their fans.  Look at this article:

http://ie001.blogspo...m_medium=social

They are considered the most fan friendly company because they LISTEN to fans.....

Back to Star Trek:

Thank GOD for the Eagle moss Ship Collection.  Now there's a company that knows how to do it.  I would strongly recommend subscribing if you haven't already.

I also recommend, for those of you not already into it, to get into model building.  It's lots of fun and you can fill out your collection of everything else DST didn't make.

And it is a great time to be a Star Wars fan.  From that angle, everything's coming up roses! :)

We won't have to live with this detailed electronic and action figure trek famine forever.  I'll prepare an article soon about where I see the future of the industry going.  We're gonna get everything and more.  Here's a preview:

At least I'm getting it from eaglemoss later this year!

The issue with that is Defiant was denied recently.

Maybe it's all bullshit and he's denying ships that they actually are doing.
