I am seriously contemplating trying out Thatsmyface.com to produce some custom 7" heads for my spare DST TWoK bodies. It's quite expensive but it might be the only way to complete the collection!

I thought I'd start with Janice Rand. A custom head costs around $69.00 plus the bespoke cost of a custom hair sculpt which I suspect could be expensive. I want to go for her TMP hairdo for several reasons:

1. DST might yet release their TOS Rand.
2. I only have spare TWoK bodies but live in hope of a set of TMP figures.
3. The screenshots from TMP are the only ones that have a full frontal of Janice's face and there is some hair on her forehead which needs to be covered by the custom sculpt. I've found roughly 360 degree photos of the hair.
4. The TMP hairdo is tied up and should look reasonably tidy even on a TOS body.
5. If this looks any good I will go for TMP Chapel, Ilia, and Decker, and maybe a few others, as and when I can afford them.

We all know that the figure sculpts only have a reasonable resemblance to the actors. I've tried tweaking the photo but I'd be interested to know if other people think the sculpt looks sufficiently like the actress:

The primary sculpt is expensive but duplicates can be produced at the time the figure is ordered for $30.00. If anybody else fancies trying this we could always spread the cost across all the copies made.

There are several threads already talking about getting heads made in one form or another...

We had looked at this previously, and for me, the cost was just too much per head.

As I said in several threads I wanted to keep an unpainted head at under $10 ea, and Fat Valentino has offered a project that promise to get us 10 heads for $75 so, I'm going to throw in and see how his first project works out!

I'm really looking forward to getting some more TOS heads and doing a custom Rand/Chaple!

Then I'm hoping we can get him what he needs to make a Voyager set!

Yeah I've chipped in for a set of alien heads but I think I'd like better likenesses for for the TMP actor characters. I'm not convinced that my painting skills will make a human look any good... I'll check out the other threads

Well, I've uploaded the four heads I want to use but I've had to re-submit Ilia as the image I picked produced something that looked a lot more like Gollum than the lovely Deltan. I'll see how that one turns out. Janice and Decker don't look too bad (there is a standard hair cut trhat is passable for Decker which would save another $150.00 tag for a custom sculpt, and I would expect the figures to bear a similar degree of resemblance to the other DST figures once scaled down. Chapel was a bit challenging as Majel had a very angular jaw which the head templates doesn't want to recognise. In the end I used some stills of Number One. I'm not wholly convinced that a figure is going to bear much resemblance to Majel at all.

The 6" head seems to be about the right scale. The head looks more like the actress than the official TWoK figures but the features are paler and more realistic. I tried a bit of brushwork to make the features sharper. I like her but I think her hair needs a bit more body. She may look less odd when standing next to some other thatsmyface style heads. I'll probably order the remaining characters before Xmas.

I finally got around to painting Janice and opening up the rest of my TWoK figures. Apologies for the poor quality camera.

I think I will order the remaining heads I need this week.

The face scan looks great, I like it. It does seem to be man sized, but I have no problem with it, if it was converted to TOS, all the better. Some of FV's resizes seemed big too… I might be interested in Decker and Ilia, as soon as I see them!

I uploaded some better pics. Basically swapped a few heads so Kirk ans Sulu are taller and McCoy is shorter but I only have a spare Sulu body for Decker so I'll either have to leave Sulu as a shorty, look out for another Spock or McCoy, or see how Decker looks as a shorty.

Fun!  Although it's short on details and pictures atm. 

 

The heads are cool, they just look too photo-realistic next to the cartoonised TWoK heads.
