Jay K, yep. DS9 is a fav of mine too. I always saw Sec 31 as an allegory for the dangers within a society or organization. DS9 used it effectively to make the moral point that those dangers can be overcome and succumbing to fear isn't the way.

But like Ive said I deslike the idea of section 31 at all in the trek continuity, and if there was a singular bad idea that came out of DS9... Im gona go with that one.
Still... its bound to make for good cloak and dagger writing and between the possibility of entertaining story and what Yeoh will bring to it... it may be hard not to watch.

Of course there have been legitimate gripes about Discovery (pacing, tone, etc.) but they're few and far between. Most of the complaints are so superficial ....
Actually, I think there are a number of legitimate complaints about DISCO... maybe not a huge number.. but I think they are rather large...

Saw Aquaman today. A 1st rate effort, and I agree... probably one of the best efforts for the DC Universe!
The plot is solid, but its a pretty much a retelling of a reimagined legend of King Arthur... which they don't even really try to hide... and I'm ok with that as I love those type of stories. Its got all the basics... the reluctant king, evil 1/2 brother... a mystical weapon that only the king can claim and must do so under trial. His mom could be Guinevere and his dad is a kind of Lancelot.
My only critique would be that I think its shot a bit dark... which is usually done to cover up CGI flaws...and some of the action scenes suffer from Michale Bayism... which is to say they are shot so fast and furious you have no idea whats really happening.
But otherwise, this is an excellent and fun movie which introduces Aquaman's back story very nicely, keeps a nice pace and sets us up for more great adventures with him in the future!

JMW326, I get it, I know others do too... but as I've said before, I think its important to understand that to some people, its a lot more... a... lot! For some people Trek is, or has been, a defining part of their life, so they just can't take it as mere entertainment. Some people really really feel like they are being attacked.

IMO... the Role play has been some of DSTs best offerings.

Everyone wants to be it but few are. I think one of the best examples of a franchise that peaked long ago but still has its resurgencies is plant o the apes. A huge cultural phenomena way before trek or wars... and it still has movies toys and other media but not like wars... I think in terms of a cultural phenomena trek hit its peak long ago. And will follow suit as POTA... tastes change and people move on. One day the Star Wars franchise will likely sputter to a low flicker.
I guess what Im rambling on about is that I see the experimentation as kind of a last gasp. If they find something that hits trek may see some resurgence... but I dont think it will ever hit the high it was at again.
I think we should try and enjoy what we can of it... which isnt to say I wont be critical of it when I dont like it but I just dont see it returning to its heyday.

Fixed that for ya
They can make 14 different series if they want to but until they get back to the original formula, they won't be the success that
theyI want.
