This new movie could end up with the actors at the end coming out of an holodeck too lol.

There seem to be people who think that the last episode of ENT implies that the entire series was a holodeck fiction in the Star Trek continuity. Nope, Riker was just watching a holodeck representation of FACTUAL history, and at a certain point he switched to interactive adding only fictional interaction, much in the way we read a factual history book (non-fiction), in which we read added footnotes with the vision of the writers.

Pamela: Oh Bobby, in my dream you have been dead for over a year now.
Bobby: You should stay off the sleeping pills.
Pamela: Really Bobby, in my dream you drowned in the swimming pool.
Bobby: You should have known better Pam, or have you forgotten I can't drown. I'm the man from Atlantis, for crying out loud!

I'm even more disquieted by whispers I've heard that the new movie is going to jump around in time ~ obviously if this is so then it would be to accommodate the appearance of Shatner and Nimoy

I suspect that if Shatner and Nimoy do appear in the movie, they will NOT play Kirk and Spock! They will have some sort of cameo like Charlton Heston had in the reboot movie of Planet of the Apes. Like Roger Moore had in reboot movie of The Saint, like Patrick McNee had in the reboot movie of The Avengers. Like Lou Ferrigno in the reboot movie of The Hulk. Like Richard Hatch had in the new Galactica series, ...

Every reboot always wants to make an homage to the original they were based upon by having some of the original actors do a cameo. Exept when you have an egomaniac (hope he won't sue me) like Tom Cruise producing the movies in which he plays. He must have thought a cameo of one of the original MI actors would have taken him out of the spotlight.

Ironically of all the examples I mentioned above, only MI seems to have been succesful. Yet I still believe rebooting the franchise is the only way to go when your franchise was killed by too much continuity.

Only now, more than 20 years after the facts, I came to see the irony of the scene. In Dallas they brought Bobby (played by Patrick Duffy, whom had previously played The Man fom Atlantis) back to life by spraying water on him!!!

Nothing ironic about it Bernsy! Rebooting not only demonstrates a dearth of creativity, but it is also a highly questionable way of keeping a franchise alive.

Not if done right. Casino Royale, Batman Begins (waaaay better than Superman Returns, which tried to stay partly in continuity), Battlestar Galactica, the Superman comics (1986 reboot), etc. were successes.

Mostly remakes are pale imitations of the originals, i.e, Miami Vice, Lost in Space (even Heather Graham could not save it) and The Avengers. The Beverly Hillbillies, Planet of the Apes, Bad News Bears, Psycho, Bewitched, Charlie Angels, Starsky and Hutch, I could go on and on. The once great Hollywood used to be known for creating interesting characters and locales constantly, now its a crap shoot, as box offices draws are down with the invent of DVD etc. Most confusing is why Star Trek since its box office takes at the last two movies were well below the takes of the past, and also with Enterprise (a show I supported) limping for only four years.

Kirk and company are so different from the list you cite. They have be in those roles for now forty plus years. I saw the headline just the other day "Scotty Finally Beaming Up" as it seems James Doohan is going to after this time have his ashes carried to space. Seeing that headline I immediately thought of Doohan, but I guess come next winter it could be some guy, a possible A list actor, playing the part of a B list actor's potrayal on a B list TV show. Also the rumours of Kirk being in Enterprise we assumed that was to be Bill Shatner playing the role he was famous for and not like John Boy was done on the Waltons and be replaced by a unknown.

All you list besides BSG were first imagined in literature by its creators for the reader to make make up there minds what characters would look like. The original BSG was one that my wife didn't even know it was done, as I just consider its 26 episodes in 1979 just a blip on the Sci Fi timeline. Most people consider Lorne Greene as Ben Cartwright and not Commander Adama.

I just don't like this remake idea.

If Shatner did show up on "Enterprise" like they had hoped he would, he would have been Kirk... just the Mirror Universe version. Kirk though nonetheless.

And personally... I think this movie will be a good thing for all Star Trek fans. If it stinks, we can ignore it and that's that.

That depends on why the remake was done. Perhaps we should call one kind 'remakes' and another kind 'reboots'.
Remakes are indeed done to try to cash in on the success of a popular show or movie.
Reboots are made because the original outlived it's usefulness. Because the original lost it's audience (which is the oposite reason to why remakes are made), because the original is no longer suited to the modern times, because the last couple of original movies were going in a wrong direction (Star Trek, Batman) or because the creative team of the original had no where to go because of too much continuity. I don't like remakes. I do like reboots. I remember just how bad the silver age Superman comics were. And how John Byrne's reboot made me hooked on Superman.

Oh wow...I like that one a lot bettter too. These ships are looking very good so far. The thing I like the most is that they are not very far departures from the TOS Ent where I could see how the TOS Ent would get made in the future. Great stuff

PS What a bunch of jerks on that site...

^^ That picture actually came out of the "Ships of the Line" book that came out last year. I agree it's a NICE photo of an updated concept for the Constitution class. If that ends up being the new design, I woudn't be disappointed, although it's far from being my favorite.

"Rent a wife and enjoy life.
1: Add the models of your choice to your list, you'll get your first wife after 2 weeks.
2: Keep her as long as you would like, no consessions, no restrictions.
3: When you feel like it, send us the model back and after 24 hours we'll send you another one, taken from your list."

More detail, which prove this is a joke, on one of the next pages on the site.

"How does it work:

Make your list
* Create a list of the wifes you would like to receive at your home by browsing our 9584 profiles.

Receive your wife by mail within 24 hours
* Shipping included is subscription, PRIOR service (fast mail in Belgium)
* According to the chosen formula, you'll receive 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 wifes

Keep her as long as you like
* No time limit, you decide
* When you're tired of looking at her, send her back by mail
* No extra fees for early return

Just send her back
* Return her in the original package
* No extra shipping fees

Receive the next one within 24 hours
* As soon as we receive the old one, the new one will be shipped"

There also seems to be a promotional offer:

"3 weeks trial, free of charge"

So no Jules, this is not a sexist dating site, I think it's more like a sexist jokes site. It's impossible any of that is for real. I think it's as fictional as the remote control I once posted. Which reminds me to add a

DISCLAIMER: The text above between the quotes is a translation of a text found on the site to which Sybeck1 placed a link. The translation was asked for by Sybeck1, who did at that time probably not know what the words on that site meant or he wouldn't have asked for the translation. This translation does by no means reflect my personal view on the matter. I do not take responcability for the meaning of the words and should not be banned from this board because of them. However if the moderators would see fit to remove my post, I shall not argue with them to have them put it back.

BTW: Sybeck1, there was a Belgian-Dutch version of the site as well. Pointing me to that would have been easier. My French is not bad, but it's a lot worse than my English. Dutch however is my native language (Hence no French language showreels on my voice-over site)

Yes it is a spoof.
And no, if it were real I wouldn't sign up. A real woman in my house for just a few hours a week, OK. But I'd much rather have a robot in my house for 24 hours a day than a woman. Or to quote Henry Higgins again:

Have you ever met a man of good character where women are concerned?
Well I haven't.
I find the moment a woman makes friends with me,
she becomes jealous, exacting, suspicious, and a damned nuisance;
and I find the moment I make friends with a woman,
I become selfish and tyrannical.
So here I am, a confirmed old bachelor and likely to remain so.

Well after all, Pickering, I'm an ordinary man,
Who desires nothing more than an ordinary chance,
to live exactly as he likes, and do precisely what he wants...
An average man am I, of no eccentric whim,
Who likes to live his life, free of strife,
doing whatever he thinks is best, for him,
Well... just an ordinary man...

BUT, Let a woman in your life and your serenity is through,
she'll redecorate your home, from the cellar to the dome,
and then go on to the enthralling fun of overhauling you...
Let a woman in your life, and you're up against a wall,
make a plan and you will find,
that she has something else in mind,
and so rather than do either you do something else
that neither likes at all You want to talk of Keats and Milton,
she only wants to talk of love,
You go to see a play or ballet, and spend it searching
for her glove, Let a woman in your life
and you invite eternal strife,
Let them buy their wedding bands for those anxious little hands...
I'd be equally as willing for a dentist to be drilling
than to ever let a woman in my life,

I'm a very gentle man,
even tempered and good natured
who you never hear complain,
Who has the milk of human kindness
by the quart in every vein,
A patient man am I, down to my fingertips,
the sort who never could, ever would,
let an insulting remark escape his lips
Very gentle man...

But, Let a woman in your life,
and patience hasn't got a chance,
she will beg you for advice, your reply will be concise,
and she will listen very nicely, and then go out
and do exactly what she wants!!!
You are a man of grace and polish,
who never spoke above a hush,
all at once you're using language that would make
a sailor blush, Let a woman in your life,
and you're plunging in a knife,
Let the others of my sex, tie the knot around their necks,
I prefer a new edition of the Spanish Inquisition
than to ever let a woman in my life

I'm a quiet living man,
who prefers to spend the evening in the silence of his room,
who likes an atmosphere as restful as
an undiscovered tomb,
A pensive man am I, of philosophical joys,
who likes to meditate, contemplate,
far for humanities mad inhuman noise,
Quiet living man....

But, let a woman in your life, and your sabbatical is through,
in a line that never ends comes an army of her friends,
come to jabber and to chatter
and to tell her what the matter is with YOU!,
she'll have a booming boisterous family,
who will descend on you en mass,
she'll have a large wagnarian mother,
with a voice that shatters glass,
Let a woman in your life,
Let a woman in your life,
Let a woman in your life I shall never let a woman in my life.

I think that if they take the approach that Batman Begins did, that the movie will flow just fine

EDIT: It would also be very pleasing to see the ol' Enterprise A make an appearance. I don't think she saw enough action, and that's sad because she was a fine ship! Maybe some of the movie with Shatner and Nimoy will take place on board her.

thank goodness it was a joke! I know some of you liked it, but I didn't. The design had a number of things that made it look a bit more complex and if your going backward I think it should look simpler.
