I like it! It got me excited for Star Trek and I'm so happy to see them finally on a strange new world. It did remind me of Guardians of the Galaxy but really GotG reminded me of Star Trek.

It's great to see that this Star Trek doesn't look as though it's going to be rehashing old plots or enemies and that its doing its own thing the way it should have done in Into Darkness.

I'm interested!

The Jedi chick's pretty cool I guess.

(Is it too late to rewrite this movie?) Okay, okay, I'll go see it a couple of times, it's not like I won't see it.

I don't like how Spock's hair is getting more obviously fake, but I like the vaguely TOS feel of the story.

It's very much in the spirit of the original series but also obviously the sequel to Star Trek and Star Trek Into Darkness which is either a good or a bad thing depending on your own tastes.

I've been roaming around the various online Star Trek sites and I have to say I'm appalled at the attitudes of some of the more vocal fans out there... Is there just no pleasing some people? I'd really like to know what it is they actually want from a Star Trek film.

From what one can summarise from a 1 minute trailer, they certainly seem to have learnt from the problems of Into Darkness and taken their cues from the fun and energy from the 2009 movie.

On top of how slick, polished and spectacular it looked, it also looks like this movie will allow each of the main characters to be a main part of the plot. It's suspenseful too and does exactly what everyone wanted from this new incarnation; unpredictability!

I mean there's nothing that says everyone has to survive this film and clearly the Enterprise gets blown to bits in this one giving me the thought that do they get a new Enterprise by the end of this movie and does that Enterprise look more like the original series ship...

Hmm, not quite sure how I feel about it. It's weird to me that they would already destroy the new Enterprise, but it does look like it is.

I'll wait until we learn more about the actual plot, but I'll still be seeing it regardless.

I hated it at first.  When I re watched it and turned my trek brain off it seemed like a decent sci fi movie.  I know my wife and her friend loved it.  Of course my wife is more a Star Wars fan and only liked some of TNG and Voyager.  Her friend hates old trek.  By reading a lot of posts on facebook it seems there are those that either hate it or love it.  I seem to be Im one  of a few that are in the middle.  That being said Im not going to judge any one who has a opinion either way because I can see both sides.

My opinion is if you like it, great. If you don't, great as well. Let people express opinions, and don't take it personally, or say it's a shame etc.

I'm going to make a guess at the three Eaglemoss ships, based off of what I saw in the trailer. Spoiler-tagged for those who didn't do a frame by frame/aren't watching it:

It's a teaser. I'm teased enough. I'll see it. Hopefully it's better than Insurrection and Nemesis.

Just going to leave this here.

This trailer wasn't made to appeal to Trek fans, but to a broader audience. You have to remember it's premiering before Star Wars, and they're trying to get them interested.

Reddit also enlightened me to this article, which is pretty interesting.

http://collider.com/...-lin-interview/

Here are the trailers for ALL of the older Trek movies, most of them are pretty action oriented, and some are just completely ridiculous.

TMP -

TWOK - https://youtu.be/vOIYaRb6XpQ

TSFS - https://youtu.be/4wzG1u4zStM (The fact that they spoiled the destruction of the Enterprise in this shocked me)

TVH - https://youtu.be/Zjq5j2buEW8

FF - https://youtu.be/LurjQE3g24Q

TUC - https://youtu.be/RERAc0ipha0 (This trailer is amazing)

Generations - https://youtu.be/X7lk5xnu6aY (So ridiculous when you've seen the actual movie)

FC - https://youtu.be/4W2Ehf4qrh4

Insurrection - https://youtu.be/uP8dH36Sc64

Nemesis - https://youtu.be/1bw4FGqQhSs

Edit: I don't know why it only embedded some of the videos.

Obviously the movie may not appeal to everyone, but to judge it based on its teaser trailer isn't fair since pretty much any Trek movie could be made to look bad by a poor trailer.

^ Very true that trailers can make any movie seem worse than it might be. We definitely need to see more to start to get a real picture of what to expect.

Looks like Lin is "politely ignoring" the events that happened in Into Darkness. I find that amusing.

Saw these gifs being tweeted by TrekCore, and they made me laugh hard. Reactions to the Star Trek Beyond trailer, as told through the medium of DS9:

Reaction 1, Major Kira:

Reaction 2, Worf:

Reaction 3, Worf again:

As I said, they made me howl! Can't beat a good reaction gif or three. :D

Simon Pegg had a quote about the trailer:

"It was very action packed.  I was…it was surprising.  I found it to be kind of…the marketing people sort of saying ‘everybody come and see this film, it’s full of action and fun’, when there’s a lot more to it than that.  I didn’t love it, because I know there’s a lot more to the film.  There’s a lot more story, and a lot more character stuff, and a lot more of what I would call ‘Star Trek stuff.’  But, you know, they’ve got to bring a big audience in, they’ve got to bang the drum.  So to Star Trek fans, I’d say hang in there, be patient."

I love how Lin and Pegg have spoken about Star Trek Beyond. I'm really excited, more so than I was before Into Darkness.

I'm remaining rather neutral and calm for now.

It looks like it might be a fun film and be enjoyable. Pegg and Lin are infinitely preferable to Orci and Abrams - Lin might be best known for Fast, Furious Films, but he has also directed some of my favourite episodes of Community and some very cerebral episodes of True Detective (among a lot else, I'm sure).

There's even a part of me that's excited about seeing this film...

But it's not the part that usually gets excited about Star Trek. There's a palpable shift in my approach to Beyond... I'm genuinely treating it like it's not Star Trek, and so it therefore doesn't matter if it continues to sh*t on canon, to be low-brow, and to not look anything like Star Trek... because, to me, it simply isn't. This isn't me denying anything - I'm kind of surprised at how natural this reaction is. I didn't think about it, I just watched the trailer and was totally un-bothered. When I tried to find out why... it was because I don't feel like it's Star Trek any more.

STID really hurt me... I think I am now Star Trek Beyond caring about the JJverse.

I won't be seeing this in the cinema, but I will see it.

Lol. I swear the beastie boys are yelling "Khaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan" by the end of that mashup trailer!

I was reading the comments on TrekMovie... wow they are really negative.

Like the last two I'll wait until it comes out, then decide if I'll go see it or rent it on red box.

On the positive side, it sounds like were finally getting Trek to where I hoped for two films ago... back out in the galaxy exploring.

Trekmovie always are. It's one of the things just giving Trek fandom a REALLY bad name. All the trolls and goblins there.....makes me wonder if they've ever watched Trek or are even fans of Trek. Most times it just doesn't sound like it,and I've said as much in the comment section there myself. They can hate and troll me all they want,I don't give a rats ass with those people anymore. lol
