#97256 Star Trek: The OTHER Animated Series announced

Prodigy keeps looking better and better. Check out those screen shots in this casting announcement. Very nice!

#97114 Star Trek: Discovery. Series talk and discussion

People are still talking about the influence of Muhammad, Newton, Christ, Buddha and Confucius here on Earth without the benefit of such a robust historical record. They've been gone thousands of years.

In the very distant future I imagine it's not difficult to run a genetic scan to verify someone's identity, especially someone whose biological data was archived by Starfleet and the Federation.

Spock had a nutty, estranged brother, too. His family history continues to be revealed. Michael is far more interesting to me than Sybok or T'Pring.

If only there was a toy licensee willing to manufacture toys. And a market to support those toys. We'd be on our second USS Discovery by now.

There are also some pretty toy-tastic characters and concepts this season, from Book's ship to the worker drones shown in the intro.

Damn, I miss Star Trek Minimates.

#97041 Star Trek: Lower Decks

The opening bit of "Terminal Provocations" got me to laugh out loud. Well done.

The over-the-top security chief was fun. The space battle was unique. I loved the way they both mocked and one-upped every holodeck episode.

Okay. I'm ready for Lower Decks Minimates.

#96951 2020 Exclusives

ONE cup and ONE saucer for $35?

That's fine for a convention exclusive I suppose but gimme a set of four for $50, please. Make it so.

#96924 Should Playmates make a Star Trek: Lower Decks line?

I'm still waiting for someone to make figures based on the first animated series.

#96792 Star Trek: Strange New Worlds

Yeah, this CBS All Access is definitely ruining the franchise.

Personally, I'm looking forward to this series, as much as any other. After all, "Young minds, fresh ideas. Be tolerant."

#96731 New Star Trek Series starring Patrick Stewart

Picard is what Generations could have been.

Instead of forcing the Next Gen cast into theaters prematurely, they should have learned that absence makes the heart grow fonder. But no, they thought it was simple as putting the TV cast in a film and everything would be super.

Any problems Star Trek: The Motion Picture had were forgiven at the time because it had been ten years since we'd seen these characters in live-action. It wasn't just the first Star Trek film, it was a reunion for fans and their favorite characters.

There's been even more pent-up demand for Picard & company since the dumpster fire that was Nemesis. Yes, a performer of Stewart's caliber has always been an asset, regardless of the material. But a significant part of the success of Picard has to do with fans simply missing seeing these characters on screen. I'm just glad it wasn't a feature film because I still strongly believe Trek's home is episodic television, not film.

#96711 McFarlane Toys Gets Entire Star Trek Licence!

Posted by MisterPL on 10 April 2020 - 10:00 AM

Unless the license agreement restricts it, this may be the way to offer Star Trek product going forward.

I mean, if Todd can crowdsource that much money to produce one Spawn figure, I'd hope that he or DST would be able to offer something equally as attractive to Trek collectors. (Like an entire bridge crew of Minimates or 7" figures or a Drydock for the 1701 refit...)

#96679 New Star Trek Series starring Patrick Stewart

Just finished Picard today. Very much looking forward to the next two seasons. Eager to see what's in store for other former crewmembers.

I'd argue Discovery has shown Starfleet and the Federation in a better light than Picard has so far, I mean Pike is the embodiment of everything they stand for. He is by far the best character of any of the new Trek series, and I really hope we get more of him.

Institutions change. While Picard clearly has the same compassionate ideals, Starfleet adopted a "Federation First" credo at some point during the Romulan crisis and the Mars attack.

#96021 CBS All Access General Discussion

Posted by MisterPL on 01 May 2019 - 07:23 AM

Well... BBT is not really theirs... in this case CBS is just the distributor and I believe the Warner Bros TV/Chuck Lorre Productions, much in the same way Star Trek never originally aired on CBS... it was owned by Desilu... distributed by NBC, and at some point CBS acquired Desilu. CBS also owns many other shows that they never originally aired... like Cheers and Frasier, and these are all available... HBO is the distributor and the producer of their shows... but they have plenty of of content they are only the distributor of... its the same model used by every service... Netflix, and Hulu included.

Exactly. There's a good chance Big Bang Theory will be taken off CBS All Access so it can be made available on WarnerMedia's upcoming streaming platform.

I suppose that's one more reason for the CBS-Viacom merger to happen soon. The more content, the better.

#96001 Kelvin Figures?

Posted by MisterPL on 24 April 2019 - 03:08 PM

That's definitely an improvement. Sucks that it had to be done in the first place but it looks much better now.

#95987 Star Wars Episode 9 Trailer

Posted by MisterPL on 22 April 2019 - 10:29 AM

Define "scrapped."

Was Ridley Scott's Alien prequel "scrapped" in favor of Prometheus?

Was Star Trek: Phase II "scrapped" in favor of Star Trek: The Motion Picture?

I've yet to read anything about the next two Star Wars trilogies being "scrapped." On the contrary. Disney insists there are movies "in development."

What specific Star Wars movies have been "scrapped" by Disney?
