Ah, thanks - yeah, I see it now. So he is definitely meant to sort of fall back at that angle while Kirk is kicking him or whatever. Maybe I just need to re-watch Space Seed. It's been a long time! In any case, I like that there are a lot of fun display options.

Just ordered them from Hastings. Both shipped for about $49. Best price I've found them for online.

Without articulation these becomes little more than models or statues. They look nice, but seem to me that they are prepainted model kits, with no snapping together or gluing needed. If DST would make figures with articulation that came with bridge sections that hooked together, that would be a winner, but the out of scale Horta poop pile just doesnt look good to me. Khan with no articulation is no fun either.

You may not like them, but Kirk and Spock do have articulation. They have 10 points of articulation. Their arms, necks and waists are fully poseable, and they have rotation at the boot cuff. It's really just hips and knees, but the second set of legs are meant to take the place of the 12 points of leg articulation the kneeling pose would require, and capture the pose far better.

And it's not like limited-articulation action figures with interchangeable parts are some sort of foreign concept. They're what made McFarlane and NECA and Mezco what they are today. Granted, McFarlane's toys were often utterly unposeable, and such a statement might be warranted in that case, but not here.

If you want a fully articulated Spock, Kirk OR Khan, we've made them. But I think you'd be hard-pressed to show me a TV scene this Kirk and Spock can't re-create.

I think articulation is a big deal. NECA and Mezco now both put an array of articulation in their figures - why? Because people wanted it. No matter how much you guys sell the fact you can swap body parts, a lot of people really don't want to do that.

When you guys are constantly improving on articulation with your ever improving Marvel Select, I think a lot of collectors (and it is collectors mostly) will expect that from your other lines.

Articulation is interesting. I'm usually of the "more is more!" sentiment on articulation. But, I do think it's a valid point that they've already made fully articulated figures before. And I do think the crouched legs option is MUCH better than trying to get an articulated figure in that pose (it never looks quite right.)

Someone on another board wondered if DST could no longer produce fully articulated figures because of Hasbro's master toy license. Not sure if that's just silly speculation or if there could be some truth to that?

In any case, I actually think if DST is able to get more adventurous in their character selection (though I understand starting with some of the bigger guns) that people might have less issues with the lack of articulation. I'd love to get Quark at his bar or Janeway with multiple heads for her different hair styles. If we can get some of the characters they've never gotten to in this format, I think people might warm up to it even more.

I love Mezco's stuff, but I don't think articulation is that important to them. Kick-Ass, Breaking Bad, Axe Cop, Universal Monsters, Mez-Itz, LDD... Not a knee joint in sight, and if they have hip joints at all, they're usually a simple pivot. They focus on capturing the look of each character above everything else.

People can like what they like, and buy what they buy. All I'm saying is that they're not unarticulated, that's all. And the number-one complaint people have about their action figures is that they can't stand up. These can. Very well. Don't rule out an entire toy experience because you've been taught that articulation is "better." It's a preference. And every review I've seen of either the Selects or the TRU figures has been positive.

This is what we had to try to bring the Trek line back. Now that it's back, maybe future figures will be like this, maybe we'll try some different things. We'll see.

I for one love the sets and the dynamic poses. I hope Worf is done in this fashion fighting Duras from Reunion.

I'd rather have figures with less articulation rather than no figures at all..I mean the figure line was dead and there was no clue when they would be back, if even. And honestly i really like the looks of the TRU ones, i want to get the Regular Selects too.

These are officially all over the place.  Saw them at a couple local comic book stores along with the specialty minimates.  Anyone have any idea how many of the selects were made?

I got my deluxe select sets yesterday and am overall very happy with this new line. Here are a couple of pics of the two different sets and what you might be able to do with them.

I am also going to give a little mini review of the Pros and KHAAAAANS of the figures.

Pros (for both tru and select versions)

Cool display bases from both. Engineering and the rock bases are both great for cool dioramas.

Lots of interchangeable parts for may different natural looking poses.

Body sculpts are really well done for the figures

Upper body articulation is great for this type of figure to give you a little more freedom with your displays.

Lots of fun swapping parts to get the display you want.

They look awesome once you get them displayed the way you like.

NIce solid figures that dont feel like they will break when you swap parts.

No Rubber shirts!!!

Khaaaaaans (for both tru and select versions)

They could both use at least one pair of neutral hands

I would have liked to see a more neutral standing set of legs for kirk.

The jumping through the air legs are pretty useless unless that is the only pose you want to do but does not look natural at all. (to the parts bin they go).

The Khan accessory. Same as jumping legs ( I may see if I can pop the head and hands off for future customs).

No second Kirk head or broken phaser. I was kind of looking forward to these but not a deal breaker.

Horta is a little on the small side but still looks like a horta. (It was pretty cheesy looking in the show and looks just like it). Not my favorite episode.

Horta base does not have the horta eggs like the prototype shows.

Overall I am really liking these and think this is a great way to keep the Star Trek figure line alive. The diorama style display bases are cool and these are just really cool figures to have on a shelf.

I will say that the thing that makes them great is the upper body articulation. It allows you to come up with different poses even though the legs are static. This will be a pattern that needs to be repeated throughout the line. Hopefully the static Picard doesn't kill it before it really has a chance to shine.

Zach... make me a nurse Chapel, and I promise to buy one of every start trek product DST makes.  Seriously. Add a Yeomen Rand and I'll buy two of everything and give the 2nd set to charity!

I really will!

And to your point, I don't care if they only have 10 points of articulation. These are looking spectacular and will fit nicely with the previous product.

I really didn't think I'd like them, but they look great. adding a character that hasn't been done on the rare occasion really will get people like me into the line!

Okay, so quite a few pages back I did a silly sketch of a Star Trek Select Troi. This time, I'm going to show an utterly SERIOUS drawing of what I think would be the ULTIMATE Captain Kathryn Janeway Select toy.

Let's face it, if she ever gets one... it's likely the only time we'll see the good Captain in this form, so I think she needs to hit all the buttons! Now, I do think this might be too much. It seems like maybe with Picard on we won't see quite so elaborate designs with these. Of the things on there, I guess the chair, crossed legs and the coffee cup would be the first things I'd cut if I had too.

But I just think one of the great things about the non-articulated legs is the ability to get really natural poses out of the legs, and this would be a perfect use. So here's my crazy dream:

Insanely huge version of this is here: http://www.flickr.co...in/photostream/

9149159658_6109e37d1e_c.jpg

So, she'd come with:

Articulated upper body

2 head with different expressions

3 hair pieces

1 phaser rifle hand

1 phaser rifle grip hand

2 neutral open hands

1 coffee-cup hand

1 pair of standing legs

1 pair of sitting crossed legs

Yeah.. probably nuts... but it would be amazing to choose which look you'd want from her. :)
