So, I think we pretty much learn that Burnham didn't actually go through star fleet training and in fact was at least admired based on her training from Vulcan.

Another good episode for character development... But the techno Babel mcguffins continue to be a weak point IMO.

Lorca is putting me on a roller coaster for sure! Tilleys development was in a positive direction, and she's becoming more likable to me.

I mean yeah this show is soooo bad, it needed a second season because everyone hates it so much...

Can. Not. Wait. Looking forward to see where Discovery goes. This episode they seemed to flesh Lorca out a little.

A number of awful shows get renewed, Keeping up with the Kardashians is an example. Of course there are enough morons out there to keep that show alive so there are bound to be enough like that to keep discovery alive .

Just because you cant accept something new or different doesnt make people who do morons. Discovery is shaping up to be a fine Trek series, Im sorry youre incapable of accepting or seeing that.

If all youre going to do is insult people, then dont comment at all. You arent contributing to discussion anymore, and havent for a while.

Well shit... and heres me thinking you were done with Discovery.

VF, the only mornons here are those who say they hate something but continue to talk about it...

Calling a number of STAR TREK FANS mornons because they like STAR TREK is... moronic at best.

Youre a fool if you believe that Star Trek: Discovery isnt a great show. Youre an even bigger fool to think your idea of Star Trek is somehow everyones idea of Star Trek.

Now either admit to yourself youre done, in which case stop trolling this topic, or fucking watch the show and comment on the details in the episodes. Dont just chuck your toys out of the pram.

I am now more than ever convinced that Tyler is the Klingon Voq. I totally thought Lorca was going to kill the admiral... either in his quarters or sabotage of her shuttle.

I really liked Lorca in this episode, he wasnt just an unlikable bastard, there was something very vulnerable about him and I felt really sorry for him when he almost breaks down saying please dont take my ship, its all I have... some truly amazing acting in this series.

Michael Burnham... I dont know what to think about her. I just dont think her story is all that compelling or interesting. In a weird way its everyone around her Id like to know more about.

I think they are doing an amazing job of trying to show the characters as actual emotional humans... and sometimes that makes you vulnerable... life isn't perfect.. even in Utopia, and I love seeing how they are dealing with it. Burnham especially seems to have many vulnerabilities... one of which is her "Dad" tried to make her into something she isn't... I think part of what we are exploring is if Burnham can actually regain her humanity, because to me its clear that it was stripped from her... and I think Georgeiaou saw that and tried to bring her back.

(By the way, Discovery is a proper noun so it's capitalized. Not that a moron would know that. ;) )

I am surprised that you seem offended, I guess insults are okay as long as your the one on the giving end. So this discussion is only for people that like the show and not for people who dislike it? Those veteran Star Trek fans that object to this show are not going to go away , they are going to continue expressing their disgust with this show until they are heard and they either give us a real Star Trek show or cancel this one at least. They can renew it for 5 more seasons for all I care but they may regret it when people start cancelling their subscriptions .

You said yourself you're done with Discovery, and are no longer watching it. So no, you have no place making comments on a show you aren't watching since you won't know what you're talking about. Same with those "veteran" Star Trek "fans" who have stopped watching the show, but still talk shit about it.

You aren't, and have said you're done with it. So be done with it and stop talking about something you know nothing about.

I have no issues with someone criticizing Discovery if they're actually watching it. It isn't perfect, but it most definitely is Trek, and has gotten more and more Trek with each episode. Since its a continuing, serialized story that isn't terribly surprising.

I am surprised that you seem offended, I guess insults are okay as long as your the one on the giving end.

I've never called anyone a moron for liking something I don't or vice versa.

You have, and said worse things that I was surprised to hear from someone who claims to be a Star Trek fan.

Do you re read what you type? I know Im never going to win an argument with you because youre so set in your idea of what Star Trek is, and lets face it, who ever won an argument over the internet!?

These fans you speak of. I dont doubt they exist. I dont doubt that there are a lot of fans like you who vehemently disagree with everything Discovery is, but dont deny other Star Trek fans who really do like Discovery the respect they deserve by liking this Star Trek show.

VF you also sound as though this is something new. TNG, DS9, VOY, ENT... they all had their detractors. It didnt change those shows and honestly most Star Trek fans love, well, any Star Trek. You can piss all over that with your but its not real Star Trek and just because its Star Trek doesnt mean I have to like it bull shit all you damn well like. The fact is most Star Trek fans will give any Star Trek a chance. Discovery is no different and sorry to burst your feeble bubble, but so far Discovery seems to be winning more fans over than not.

So sure, scream, shout. Send death threats to the producers... it wont change a damned thing and all youre doing is labelling yourself everything you claim other Star Trek fans are for liking Discovery.

Perhaps we should all agree the other thread is for discussing the future of the show and if it was/is a bad idea or not and this one should be for discussing the actual series? Seems fair to me. I mean I hate the show also, but theres a point where were just unnecessarily raining on someone elses parade so to speak.

TNG,DS9 and VOY brought each brought in some things that fleshed out Star Trek and expanded it. But they didn't disrespect what came before it. Enterprise came in and started disrespecting canon, pissed off fans and ended up with piss poor ratings and ended up canceled much sooner than the previous 3 series. Abrams movies fired a photon torpedo and blew up canon and now here we go with yet another travesty that they are trying to call Star Trek. Disrespect, outright bs.

Very good approach s8film40, If you make a thread called "Why I hate about ST DISCO"... or something to that effect...  I promise I won't post in it.

I get that people have some legitimate issues with the show, I've got my issues with it, but I don't think its a complete abomination, I've been willing to critique what I think the've done wrong.... maybe its not very good Star Trek (I actually don't think its the worst Star Trek done thus far)... but regardless,  its actually not bad TV... and its certainly not the worst sci-fi TV ever done!

Like Goth, I dont think Discovery is the best Star Trek series. Its not the worse though and 6 episodes in, its going somewhere.

I think the criticisms Ive heard from people like Robert Meyer Burnett and Jason Inman are warranted and ultimately I totally think this series should of been set in the future from everything that has come before it. It is heavy handed with how its dealing with canon and continuity and it clearly hasnt found its space legs just yet, theres a lot going on and 6 episodes in, Im still not sure where this show is headed - i think that is more to do with the tumultuous conception of this show where theyre taking bits and pieces of Fullers story. it is for me very much a love hate relationship. I love some of the things theyve done but I hate a lot of what theyve done too.

Having said that, I cant stop watching it, this is such a weird show! Its production levels are top notch, the acting is superb, the stories have been gripping, the scripts have been tight, it seems like it knows where its going, quietly confident of its own destiny. it is good TV, and theyve certainly got people on this show who really understand what has come before it. Lets not forget this is its first season, and I definitely believe it has the potential to lead into something even better for season 2.

I definitely think that more Star Trek alumni need to be brought in to flesh out this series; Manny Coto, Ronald D. Moore, Ira Behr. People who really intimately understand Star Trek and what it is. I think a lot of the executives on the show will be cut away for season 2 and you know I hope more people whove worked behind the scenes on Star Trek are bought in to do the CGI, make up, costuming, etc and for it to find its own path by not forcing canon into it so much but becoming the period piece it needed to be from the outset. Id definitely like to see some more visual nods to the TOS era but not necessarily every episode they throw canon at us. It needs to create its own canon that will eventually tie into TOS.

I think something needs to happen that sets both the Klingons and starfleet back in terms of technology and a reason is given for the difference in look.

Stylistically speaking, I could do with less CGI, maybe raise the brightness on some of the exterior shots of space etc... and I could do with more visual tie ins to TOS.

There you have it, folks; the calling card of the Trek supremacist, still thinking the Civil Rights era of 1960s America was the best time ever. The multiple exclamation points is the official seal of the "LALALALALAIAMNOTLISTENING Party."

What we saw in Ep 6 was actually very cleaver and skillful incorporation and expansion of real cannon... showing this team *can* do it... and i've read many many (real) fans say they will never watch the TOS ep Journey to Babel again in the same way... which I hadn't though about on my original viewing, but I agree, it took nothing away from the original, but instead added to that lore in what I thought was a very respectful way.

I didn't see the latest episode yet.

But I did have a thought.

What if it turns out that Tyler is not Voq, but instead that Voq is Tyler?

As in, what if he was embedded in the Klingon Empire on behalf of Starfleet or Section 31 or some such, and was manipulating things for some twisty reason?

This thought occurred to me while reading someone somewhere (I no longer recall, it was a busy week) saying that Tyler seemed too naturally human in behavior/manner to be a Klingon spy trying to pretend to be human.  So what if it went the other way?  That could even become a good fansplanation for why those initial Klingon scenes were so awkward.  Tyler makes a bad Voq because Tyler is not Klingon.  And also could explain why he had no lineage and was called "SON OF NONE".

Hmmmmmm???  You heard it here first!!!  :)

Hmmmm.... but wouldn't they have figured out what he was when they tried to meek him look human? And on that note... wouldn't a medical exam be standard upon return to duty ? Because wasnt a scan with a tricorder how McCoy unearthed one?
