That's crazy! I don't remember anyone who DIDN'T want to see that movie!

I'm sure that changed once it was actually out though, right? wink.gif

Ahhhh... memories.

V will always have a special place in my heart. Having become a fan of TNG the first year it was on, The Final Frontier was the first Star Trek movie I got to see on the big screen. I went with my mom (I was only 9) and I still have the big red cup with the Star Trek V logo on it we got at the theater. I seem to remember having a T-shirt from it as well. I quite enjoyed it as a kid and wanted the toys until i saw that they didn't really move. I had some Willow action figures like that and I'd learned my lesson not to bother with them.

Having re-watched all the TOS movies for the first time in a long time I was struck by how much good stuff is in V. I mean, the special effects are embarrassing.... especially the way the models are lit. But there are some fun Spock/Kirk/McCoy moments.

I do remember REALLY wanting the "Marsh Melon" dispenser mail-away they had at the time too.

I ordered that dispenser back then, it was a mail away thing from Kraft marshmallows packages. Still have one in the mailer box still in the plastic baggie! Around the same time period, crest toothpaste had a mailaway for a set of communicators from TOS, still have those as well in the mailer box. I like the STV posed figures, but not as much had they had been ACTION figures. I have a MIB Spock and a loose Sybok, not interested in the others that much anymore.

I'd sure like for DST to do a few figures from this movie. I always thought this was a fun movie! 1989 sure was a good summer for movies! I was 16. I only hope the summer of 2009 will be as fondly remembered by today's youth!

Yes, it was, Star Trek V, BATMAN, and Indiana Jones and the last crusade were a pretty good line up for a summer, fond memories are there for me. I wouldnt mind seeing a Star Trek V line from DST myself.

Yeah, remember when DST said something like we'd get a 2-pack from each movie? I guess that's pretty much dead in the water now....but I wonder what the Star Trek V pack would have been? Sybok (retooled Spock in robes body) and Spock (in red TWOK style outfit)? Kirk and Spock in the Starfleet jumpsuits? Kirk and Spock in campfire gear? Sigh....guess we'll never know...

Well DST could still do that....you never know. I mean the ST-IV Two pack is still coming out, they just skipped over ST-III for now and might keep moving on with the two packs.

True...I was just basing it on the fact that if that insanely awesome Kruge/ Maltz was cancelled for lack of orders, than what is the likelihood that a pack based on the what is probably the least popular Trek film would get made?

Still, like you said, there's always a chance...

They can still make Kirk and Spock in their combat uniforms. It is, after all, Kirk and Spock and the combat uniforms would be different enough to sell well.

ST6 would be the one that would be hardest to come up with. Would the Klingons sell, considering the Maltz and Kruge figures failed to and the ST6 Klingons would need new uniform sculpts on top of everything. They could do a Sulu and Rand two pack, but would they sell on their own without Kirk or Spock? I suppose they could do a Captain Kirk and Captain Sulu two pack, completely kitbashed set with no new sculpts at all, or a Captain Spock and Valeris two pack, one reuse and one new head sculpt. The Sulu and Rand two pack would appeal more to fans, but a set without Kirk and/or Spock would be a harder sell for DST's general customer base.

I think they are some of the worst looking "figures" even made other then Sybok! LOL
As you can see I doubt that the heads remove unless you cut them off.

Yeah, whether you call them figures or statues, they're crap by any name. As I was going through my stuff recently, i came across a complete set of these and had one of those "what was I thinking?!" moments. I packed them up and shipped them off to a buddy of mine who is a ST5 fiend. (Other than that, he's normal). wink.gif

While i don't think ANY ST5-themed figures would sell (and I like the commando stuff), ST6 would be a natural, I would think, since it's a fan fave to begin with. You mentioned Valeris, but there's also Chang, Gorkon and his daughter, Col. Worf and the Assassin in the Rad suit. Those Klingons are especially unique in their "non-traditional" garb. A Gorkon could be amazing!

I love the ST6 Klingons. It's just the need for new sculpts for guest characters that makes me think DST would, more than likely, pass on them. They could even get enough preorders to justify production on figures with reused bodies, i.e. Kruge and Maltz.

Hmm, I wonder why they not do two two-packs from the movie(s). Just pack a Kirk in one and Spock in the other. We could get "Captain" Kirk and Kruge, but I cant think of what type of altered Spock would be involved. I think they should not waste the castings they did for the Klingons.

Totally agree... and they really should have mixed and matched the TVH 2 pack. They could have done Kirk/ Kruge and Spock/ Maltz. Sure, doesn't make a ton of sense...but I highly doubt anyone would have complained...

Getting back to the Galoob Star Trek V figures, i just bought the set of 5 on ebay. I bought a set of these 20 years ago when they came out, but they are long gone, and a few years back i bought a Spock MIB for my Spock collection, but i found a deal i couldnt pass up so i went for it. $24.99 for the whole set! plus 14 bucks shipping, but it actually cost the guy 20 bucks to ship them so he didnt make much off of them. These figures retailed for $20 dollars each in 1989. The Package boxes are pretty hard to find MIB, and i remember back in 1989 that these were commonly bashed and dinged up even newly placed on the shelves, so these are rather fragile boxes. mine are no exception, but for 20 years old, they are in surprisingly good shape, and of course the figures look great and mint inside. I like the back of the boxes, because it shows the whole Galoob Star Trek line up, including all of the TNG figures with Wesley and the Romulan, Galileo and Ferengi ships for the figures and the diecast ships and the phaser. As far as the Figures are concerned, McCoy and Kirk are a little off in likeness, but Klaa, Spock and Sybok look pretty good to me.
