Sadly another great in the vast universe of Star Trek has passed.
For those that don't know the name, Ron Thornton was a visual effects master that pioneered visual effects in Star Trek and other shows for many years. He was co founder of Foundation imaging. He also worked on shows like Buffy Babylon 5 and early Doctor Who. He was an Emmy winner for his VFX work. Among all of that he was a truly nice guy. I first met him about 10 years ago and when I introduced myself to him he told me that I didn't need to introduce myself, that some of his colleagues had told him about me and he was happy to meet me. I got to talk to him a couple of other times after that over the years and he was always genuinely friendly and personable.
It's a sad day.
