Hello everyone,
I recently acquired a brand-new MIB Playmates Enterprise-B. Finally! I had been looking for just the right one for a long time. Normally, as a toy collector, I do not "alter" my toys. But, that red LED on Enterprise-B was driving me nuts. So, I did something about it.

Nice, I remember you posting them somewhere else, but I never noticed the upgrade to an actual deflector with a blue light. Good work!

I find myself hoping that Playmates takes a few notes with DST ships and gives us properly colored LEDs in theships and playsets and I hope they loose the decals. I prefer the ship registries and hull details being painted on! Details like that could help the line go a long way.

This ship, at least to me, was just screaming to be corrected. Like I said, normally as a collector, I don't do anything to change a toy unless it's just something I feel is worth doing. So, the Playmates Enterprise-B was a perfect candidate. Another ship that needed to be "fixed" was the DST Enterprise-E (pictured in my avatar). As soon as I learned that the nacelle strips did not light, I was so mad! So, a process began that took over a YEAR AND A HALF to come to fruition. In all, I have had ELEVEN of these toys in my possession at some point. The first person I sent the toy to seemed to do a great job. When it finally arrived back to me over a month later, it was great. For about an hour. The lights dimmed, then went out altogether. He sent me a replacement, and it did not work at all! So, by this time I had been through quite a few of them for various defects and found another person to do the LED light refit. Well, over a year later, it turns out that he is a drunk, works on projects while drinking, and actually has brain damage from model paint! He still owes me a ton of stuff, but I was happy to finally get my Enterprise-E back. Until I saw that he screwed it up, inside and out! So, I fixed what I could, then sent it to someone that I KNOW could do the right job, and finally have a toy that I can live with. Well, at least until I send one to yet another person that is a professional and I have had a great dialogue with. I've tried taking some decent pics of Enterprise-E, but it's tough with no tripod and no decent lighting. I'll probably get some pics together and post in the DST thread.

How hard was this to do? I'd like to do it myself to really differentiate it from the Excelsior...

Believe me, if I can do it, so can you. You don't even need to take the ship completely apart. Just remove the screws under the mandibles, and you're in business. I completely forgot the name and type of the LED (dammit), but if you have a Radio Shack nearby, you're golden. Simply take it apart, slide the red LED out from the deflector housing, and take the ship to Radio Shack. Tell them you are looking for a blue LED of the same size, powered by three AA batteries. You'll need a soldering kit too while you're there, if you don't already have one. Presto!

JediTray, I can't see the ship in your link or in your avatar; is there any way you could make the pictures visible again? I can see everyone else's avatar and your site says it's down for maintenance. I just really want to see your "repaired" ship.
