Anyone know how the currently available DST 1701-D compares to the first version (i.e., the version with the interconnecting dorsal decal omission/error)?

I had the first run version of the D and I bought a new D a few months back and the plastic is different, it seems crisper? Like the original version had been painted over the base plastic.

You are correct 1701D the original had been painted..... I didn't realize the new release was raw plastic.... Do you like it better?

I have both the new and the old (2012) releases of the -D, and IMO, the 2012 has the better look. The grey paint over the base plastic gives it a studio look, where the shiny and glossy gray plastic of the new 2015 release doesn't lend a studio/cinematic look to the model.

2012 release is better IMO.

The raw plastic is better, it's got a nicer, crisper look to it where as the painted plastic lost a lot of the detail.

Thanks for the replies on the different DST 1701-Ds. But to add clarity, the first version came out in 2009, then a 2012 version, and now a 2015 version?

It seems there's yet another production run in progress, as Entertainment Earth shows it available in August 2015.  Wonder whether it will be any different?

Some close-up photos of the versions wouldn't go amiss if possible, guys. :)

I would absolutely be most appreciative of some shots of the 2015 release....

Is that a fact?  The paint on the edge of my 1st D's saucer actually rubbed off over time.
