Plain simple:I have collected toys a long time, and I have decided to buy some Trek related toys. Now I joined here to know what figures and stuff to buy! biggrin.gif

Other things I'm interested in is: Aliens, AVP, Predator, Star Wars, and of course computers and gaming consoles tongue.gif

Cheers

Hi, welcome to the forum! If you are new to collecting Star Trek toys, you have several decades of merchandise to choose from. Currently DST (Diamond Select Toys) and Playmates are producing Star Trek figures and related merchandise. There is a ton of info on this forum about Star Trek collectibles, so have fun! If you happen to be a completist and decide to collect all the Star Trek stuff in existence, i hope you have a couple of large warehouses and an even larger bank account.

I'm not going to collect everything... I know about DST and Playmates, and actually I had one ST collectible before I joined (Konami Enterprise A) tongue.gif

I've decided to buy these:
* DST TWOK Saavik (maybe a Playmates version too)
* DST Phaser and communicator (maybe a TWOK version too)
* DST Sisko in Defiant Chair
MAYBE: TWT Kirk in chair and McCoy/Sulu 2-pack...

Some questions and stuff:
Is the old non-rare Playmates toys OK to open from the box? I just like them better outside the box...

Well we could start the old debate once again but it's up to the person that buys it. To open them to a collector at my level of collecting makes no sense and would be pointless. The collector should do what makes them happy. It is not a question of future money value. IF one is buying Trek for future value, I have some ocean front land in Indiana I would like to sell them. in the case of the figures that he mentions, might as well open them unless there is a reason that he should need one in a mint package. In my case it is often to show the difference between the standard easy to find version as opposed to the rare hard to find variation. For example you say,"I have a Thomas Riker" and I say so do I. I have 5 different versions. If I were to open them there would be no point in bothering to have chased down the other 4.

So, it's up to the collector. Depends on what you're after.
