I say best/ worst/ biggest/ craziest because often the Playmates accessories could be all of those things at once.

The most bizarre were often the most desperate, like issuing Orion Slave Girl Vina with a fountain, or just sticking a dilithium crystal in the package when they obviously couldn't think of anything else to include. My hat does go off to the Playmates people's imagination in giving Q a miniature Enterprise and miniature Earth (pity they never got to recycle it for a Gegen the Voth figure), which were at least conceptually appropriate.

Then you have the snap-together neutraliser chair thingy that came with the Andorian figure, which was both boring visually and rather pointless (also, I'm pretty sure it was too small to actually sit a Kirk figure in), although since the figure itself was a two-in-one affair, I suppose additional gear didn't matter too much.

Anyone else have favourites or least-favourites they'd like to nominate?

Favourites:

The Polaric generator and the anti polaric armband that came with "lucky" Harry Kim

The bar wear and latinum that came with Morn and Quark

Q's Earth and Enterprise

Dr Bashir's medical gear (at last! Someone in the Medical division with a grey medkit)

The Cardassian rifle and phaser with Dukat

Tosk's DS9 mug

Garak's otolithic data rods and measuring equipment

Kirk and Spock's Lurpa's

Klingon Sisko's polaric generator and bloodwine mug

The Traveler's computer gear

Captain Sisko's phaser rifle and interphasic compensator

The Doc's Thoron Generator

Dathon's stuff

Kira's Bajoran gear

Mirror Sisko's bottle, knife, and disruptor (all appear in "Crossover")

Dress uniform O'Brien's Pattern enhancer

Mutated Geordi's Palm beacon

Great, but a bit random:

Mirror Kira's Bajoran Phaser rifle

AGT Crusher's VISOR diagnostic device and bonsai tree

Mirror Spock's TOS computer

Worst:

I don't really have a least favourite, all are very useful to some degree but, for their uselessness:

AGT Data's tea set, I'd of preferred a cat

Harry Mudd's lithium crystals and Venus pills, accurate but not useful for me

Vina's fountain, nice, and useful when making a playset yourself, useless for anything nice

Dress uniform Dax's Zhian'tara stuff

The endless pile of dilithium, TNG computers, and Tricorder's

Biggest

The Andorian's chair (the slacker, he gets a chair and almost everyone who isn't on the bridge of the D or engineering has to stand)

The Traveler's engineering monitor and stool

Ferengi Phaser rifle

The pile of tribbles you end up with after buying Warp Factor series 1

Craziest

The unbelievably big Ferengi rifle

Fantastic idea for a topic!

It always bugged me when generic accessories were endlessly re-used, even when inappropriate; like the 'portable computer gear' handbag that appeared all of twice on TV, yet was packaged with about 30 different figures; Or the Voyager-style compression rifles with the Insurrection line. The upside was that when they did go the extra mile to create character- or episode-specific items, they stood out all the more, like Chakotay's medicine bundle or Sisko's Saltah'na clock.

I think my favourite accessory has to be the bamboo cannon and diamond ammo that came with the Gorn figure. I've lost a lot of bits and pieces over the years, but I'm proud to say I still have all three diamonds present and correct :D

I'd certainly agree with you there! How many "Starfleet luggage" bags am I going to need?!? In all fairness, I can remember a few times that portable computer turned up, twice as you say, but it's stuck in my mind (Relics and Hero worship I think). One of my goals has been finding out where the hell all these reused accessories come from in all the series (shameless self plug :D). I haven't got dress uniform Sisko yet, but I'd agree on Chakotay's medicine bundle. The detail on the wings and the stone, fantastic for the time and, in all fairness, something quite obscure.

Haha, the cannon! I too still have the diamonds (though one is lodged in the bottom of the cannon, I'm sure I can get it out with a pin). To think a toy company actually made them as a toy, it's stunning. Certainly not something a Trek line would do nowadays.

I'm wondering what else people like!

T&T O'brien came with an Engineering Tool, too bad he's so rare.

I think the accessories I appreciated least were the ones that the figures themselves could not hold.  I mean why include cool accessories if the figures cannot interact with them?

Already mentioned, Vina's accessories.  I also disliked Lwaxana Troi's talking wedding gift box thing.  Detested the compression phaser rifles - could never get the figures looking cool with them as the hands were never sculpted to hold the damn things!

K'ehleyr is a great example of a figure that can hold/wear all the accessories she comes with.

I really dig the accessories the figures can hold and be displayed with - like all the Klingon disruptors (including Kruge's Star Trek III specific version).  I still think that Barclay comes with some cool accessories - engineering tools, fencing foils, weird ice cream container thing and anti grav lifter.  He can hold all of them and they are specific to his appearance in 'Hollow Pursuits'.

As for the random - loved the Andorian chair of pain, and Mutated Tom Paris' squid babies.  I thought they were a pretty cool inclusion.

That's a great idea for a thread. I love O'Brien's TOS engineering tool. It's definitely one of the best accessories of the line. I never cared much for Vedek Bareil's candleholder and candle. And I found it always too bad that the threedimensional chess-set that came with Guinan was always bent down.

The Borg alcove was a nice idea, but it needed to be a free-standing thing to work. As it is, you'd basically have to stick it to the wall behind your figure, which isn't ideal. Same with Trelane's mirror.

I'm not sure you can really talk about the Playmates accessories without talking about the figure's hands.

In the case of the alcove (yes, very cool I thought too) it came with Seven of Nine whose hands were incapable of holding anything!!

I would have much preferred a trading card or space cap like some of the other figures had.  Or maybe even a mini figure like Nog or Alexander?

Off topic, I know, but I stuck the Borg alcove on the inside of the Borg two pack. Look's great when you have a figure inside it.

From the debut series I always liked the stuff the Ferengi came with: the phaser rifle is the size of his torso, the phaser can't really be carried in any holster, and the energy whip -- if you think about it -- is the third firearm. That's a lot of weapons.

The Traveler's station and chair were great -- that was unusually generous of the manufacturer.

Favorites:

- latinum pieces, definitely a choking hazard

- commando Worf's backpack

- Data's medals

- champagne bottle with sticker (Generations?)

- Q's enterprise and earth. They must have been out of ideas since he didn't use any props.

- 1992 Data's wires and junk -- those were kind of neat.
