The big 5 0! I turn 49 next month and Trek has always been there. When you have 3 channels in your childhood it was easy to get hooked. Live Long and Prosper!

What an awesome phenomenon Star Trek is.

It is the single most important piece of cultural entertainment and has never been surpassed in its importance and influence on our world.

From humble beginnings it has transformed science fiction, inspired millions to invent, discover, explore and think. I can't point to anything else as inspirational.

For me however, Star Trek has helped my life develop in ways I never thought possible. From helping me over come depression, from helping me face up to my fears and to feel good about myself and others and to respect not just myself but those different to you. People of different race, belief, ability and the rest.

I began watching Star Trek during TNG's run, it soon became something that inspired me to believe in myself and to face up to bullies, to social and anxiety difficulties and to really understand my place in the world.

I owe Star Trek for so much more than just being entertained. It has helped change my life!

Here's to the next 50!

I turn 50 in October so I know the feeling! I grew up watching the reruns in syndication, was there on Saturday mornings when the animated series made its debut, and was in line to see the crew reunite on the big screen for The Motion Picture. While DS9 is my favorite, I really have enjoyed every incarnation of Star Trek so I count myself lucky.

Looking forward to another five decades.  :)
