Which Thomas Riker figure is it?

The rare one. Oddly though, I do have the DS9 Thomas Riker as well, but have noooooo memory of when I got it.

Well if we're gonna get that specific, it's a US, brown accessory toting, beard wielding, gold shirt wearing, odd pose striking TNG Thomas Riker. tongue.gif

hello all...

Trifold Borgs....a Paramount promo...they are really "rare" if you have one with the letter and the mailer box as they were mailed out (Examples of merchandising)...back in 1997, I was paying $1000+ to get one, and selling for 10-20% more... then, a friend from Paramount sold me a sealed case of 24 of them he found in a storage room at Paramount (I think for like $100-$125 each, I seem to recall paying $2500 for the case)...I sold them for next to nothing ($150 if I remember), and effectively (though temp) killed the market value on them...but, i was and am always about making a small/fair profit, and helping collectors get a cool figure...

Dathon With pog... I have owned 11 of them through the years... most I ever paid was $1700 to get one for a customer (sold it to him for $2000, but it cost me darn near $100 to get it shipped fedex from Au to the US, so I made a fair 10%)... least I got one for , was actually on ebay (FHC never saw one, but I bought 3 of them on ebay in the old days)...got it for $40...that was my personal copy for a long time, till I sold it to a friend (again, for like $50)...

the most valuable Playmates items I had were the unproduced prototypes resin pieces...the Rightful Heir Worf statue, the Ultra (resin) Kirk and Data and 7 of 9 and I believe Khan (I have old pictures somewhere)... sold the lot (and a few other protos), to a private collector in DE for $20,000 back in 2001, I believe... I had NO intention of selling ,as they were one of kind pieces I got from Playmates' Mara H a long time ago, and were in my personal collection... but, one day a certified check showed up (after having had exhausting conversations with the collector, telling him I probably wouldn't even sell the lot for $10K) and so I sent him the statues...ah, memories

Yeah I didn't have internet back in those days, I had to trade the hard way, with friends! I know I haven't seen in the 5/6 years I've been online. Speaking of which Rick, next time I need something rare, would you like to be my friend!!?? biggrin.gif

hello all...
I have always been a "friend" to those that need me LOL
I pretty much base secondary market resell on my cost... if I pay $600, I'll sell for $650...if I pay $100, I'll sell for $120, etc..

I went through my archived ebay bids, I bid on 2 dathon with pogs in 2005 and 2006, just for kicks...so there have been a few recently (usually, you have to goto ebay.au or ebay.uk, as those were the 2 countries the pogs were primarilly released in)...though, they occasionally show up on ebay in the US... in 2005, there was a $500 BIN on a dathon with pog...but, we pretty much sold out all our Playmates in 2001, so I really hadn't followed the market too closelly since then

Because it would've been the right thing to do.

Why, exactly, in that specific case, would it have been right? So that said store owner/dealer could over-charge someone 100 times over for it rather than it going to a fan who truly appreciates it? I don't see that being right, not by far. It would be one thing of the dealer had a heart, was a guy like Rick from New Force, who only makes a fair profit for what he sells. But most dealers are not good guys like that, they take people for every last penny they can get. The fact of the guys attitude from the phone call leads me to believe he likely falls into such.

Yeah Rick I will be honest I never check the non US ebay but I should. I also just don't search as hard core as I used to. I always say "that I've seen" because I'm sure that they must have been on there at some point. Rare means that you just have to wait a little longer before someone puts one up on ebay! LOL rare isn't what it once was! I will admit to paying less then half of that buy it now price you mention for the Dathon above smile.gif it was the deal of a lifetime!

To sort of get back on topic, this shows why I consider my Dathon right there with my Trifold Borg as my most valued pieces. Well I might add my loose m

The fact is, I would have returned it. I guess if you put it that way, what you did wasn't right or wrong.

This is the Playmates Dathon. This figure came with the "Pog or Space cap" as they were called rather then the card that was with the more common one. This version was released only in Australia and the UK and reportedly there were only (1,100). The resource guide at http://www.newforcecomics.com/trekref says that 700 went to the UK and 400 to AU. I looked for 3 years to find one I could afford and ( i guess that I could have missed one) I have never seen for sale on Ebay.

There is a Dathon w/POG currently on eBay right now.

Well rare / what something is worth, implies that it not only is hard to find but that you and others consider it worth finding. As I said before, Rick at New Force Comics, I do believe that I remember him saying, at one time, buying them for $1,000 / $1,100 dollars. Of course he is a dealer and was looking to resale them I'm sure, what he got for one was more. After prices stared to drop on all things Trek ( I had picked up my third Thomas Riker for $50 and a Red Shirt Data for about the same money) I contacted him and asked if he had one and he said that he did. If I remember right at the time he quoted me $600 / $650 and I could get a carded Mego Romulan for about $300. I decided to dig deep (after a discussion with my wife) and buy it, but by the time i did, it was gone. In the end I looked 3 years and found this one

I currently have the Dathon POG which is an extra from my collection, on eBay if anyone is interested in this figure.
I have it paired up with a few other hard-to-fund POGs - L. Troi (Canadian) and Sarek (Canadian) and Vorgon.

I would say this might be it...

Found in a load of Nikko RC stuff from Irwin Toy (Canada). It appears the cube is painted over green plastic. Probably was used for the marketing round table discussion and possibly a photo shoot.

I guess mine would be the set of wax sculpts and hardcopies for the Koloth figure with sculpts of the tribbles. The deatil is incedible. None of my production Playmates stuff is really rare.
