If you look in the picture of the DST prototype, you will see a line between the control panel and the knob on the back. Follow this link and you will see a preview of the DST prototype with the P1 removed from the pistol unit.

Hmmmm I didn't know that....I learn something very day, but that isn't what the variant is going to be...I don't really know how they would market that alone. Looks kinda wierd.

The only other thing I can think of is that DST finally decided on the ST3 phaser that they were rumored to be considering some months ago and that Rick will carry the concept art/"Mr. Scott's Guide to the Enterprise" variant as an exclusive.

Well not for the Communicators...

But For Tricorders, there is the Classic Version, the Medical Version and there is the Geological Version.

Don't forget the Psycho Tricorder...

I never heard of HMS doing a psychological tric proto for DST. Then again, was there anything to set it apart from a medical or science tricorder?

I don't think we ever saw the psych tricorder opened up. Since the woman had to be alone with Scotty to use it, and we never got to see when she was murdered while alone with him, we never got to see if there was a difference between it and a regular medical tric.

In any case, HMS only reported creating three prototypes for DST: Science, Medical, and Geological. Since, I believe, those are the only ones we've ever seen, those will be the only ones possible. Although, they could always have a Spock science tricorder variant with the little black button/nub that Nimoy requested be added for him to fiddle with. Add some different sounds, and you have another exclusive variant.

A Psych Tricorder would be dead easy. Take the Medical Tricorder and make a new screen insert.

Dead Easy...love the wording. Especialy pertaining to "Wolf in the Fold", one of my favorite episodes. It would be cool in this instance to embellish a little and add Redjac's voice on the tricorder and that swirly physcedelic cloud image, like maybe he possesed it! "REDJAC, REDJAC, REDJAC....HA HA HAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!"

I know it's a long-shot , but I am still hoping for a Star Trek 3 phaser. That has to be one of my favorite designs of all time .

While I doubt Rick's exclusive is the ST3 phaser, I feel very confident we'll see at some point next year, either at Toy Fair or SDCC.

It isn't the ST3 Phaser, Exclusives on ships or accessories are subtle repaints or variants on existing molds, it would cost WAY too much to have a brand new ship or accessory commissioned for an retailer exclusive.
