Just a few questions on the 90s Playmates figs:

. Does Data's engineering tool that comes with the Wave 1 and 2 figures ever appear on screen?

. Does the Jem'Hadar knife ever appear on screen?

. Is Trails and Tribbble-ations Odo head different to Wave 1 Odo?

. I know Playmates have made things up, but is Dr Bashir's bio a case of there imagination? I say this because I don't remember Bashir saying that Admiral McCoy was a big inspiration to him, although I haven’t seen the first 2 series thoroughly in a few years.

Just curious, that’s all, as I am currently painting some accessories and sorting my collection. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

.

I'm pretty sure that the T&T-Odo head is the same as the other Odo heads. Same with O'Brien. They should've made new sculpts for both (or at least made a few changes to the existing sculpts...).

1) Data's Tool: I don't think it actually appeared in TNG...at least not in Data's hands. But IIRC it was shown very briefly in one of the motion pictures...possibly TWOK. I can't find a screen capture to be sure though.  <_<

2) Jem'Hadar knife: it appeared in the episode "The Abandoned" where Odo raises a Jem'Hadar. He uses it on the holosuite during the combat simulations.

DS9452.jpg

3)It's the same mold, but the plastic content/paint job were different. The TT Odo was much more shiny and a lighter color tone for the eyes and hair.

4) I don't ever recall Bashir mentioning McCoy at all...except maybe during Trials & Tribbleations...but by then the PM toys would have already been out. This is probably another result of early script screw up much like the Mirror universe Picard, Thomas Riker, and Generations Uniforms.

Thanks to both of you, I am up to my knees in paint, I think I must of done about 50 purple Bat'leth's, its crazy!

Anyway, thanks for the reply both. I just got Odo in the post, and from looking at the rest of WF1 cards I have noticed the prototype seems to be a lot different, also O'Brien looks different as well, its a shame they never made them like that. Thanks about the knife and Bashir, DS9 is my favourite Trek series and I was wondering weather I had missed a line or something. To quote of the card "He has noted that the comprehensive textbooks of Admiral McCoy and the writings of Vulcan Commander Selar greatly influenced his medical studies." In addition, as previously mentioned, I am painting accessories (and even making some), and just wondered weather it was a fictional or non fictional weapon, so I having a screen shot to paint it is fantastic.

Thanks again,

Thanks!

I'm actually taking some pictures at the moment, although I’m just waiting for the latest batch of stuff to dry. I "might" (and hope) have pictures at the weekend, so stay tuned. There not 100% fantastic, but their pretty good, being the first things I have custom made. So far I have sliced my hand with a craft knife 4 times, ended up like I have had an accident with a chainsaw 7 times from getting red paint on my hands, face, arms, and feet (very awkward when I go to the door to get my Star Trek delivery from the postman), and have only made one major mistake so far out of 16 figures.

^ He beat me to it! And he is correct. I DID mean Mirror (or some other "alternate" universe) Picard.

I thought I remembered hearing from Jonathan Frakes at a convention once (or maybe it was in one of the Trek magazines  ) that there was discussion at one point to make Thomas Riker a staple part of the DS9 support crew...in the same way that O'Brien and Barclay were for TNG. Of course this never came to pass.

I think PM had somehow gotten that information when they were creating the DS9 line. I've always wanted to get ahold of the series "bible" from those early days and see if there was anything mentioned in it regarding Riker or alternate Picard. That may also be the source for Bashir's reference to McCoy.

But then again it may simply be that the PM writers/designers were just trying to generate some sort of interesting backstory for these characters.

Yeah well Playmates took creative license on a lot of that stuff so who knows where that all came from. It could just be somthing they made up since DS9 did "Mirror Episodes" The throw a Picard figure in the mix, that's all.

Thanks to everyone and sorry about the late reply, illness and a lot of work didn't leave me with a lot of time to do anything, let alone post here to my dismay. It also means that my customs have been delayed, again. But this time, with my free time coming up, I'll have about 50 more on the way thanks to my incoming supply. And not only the figures, nor accessories, so stay tuned.

Once again I a few questions:

The Cardassian Control Box that comes with Dukat, I know its in Chain Of Command, but a lot of people refer to it as Cardassian Tricorder. Is their any truth in that?

My Geordi's VISOR on both the accurate and inaccurate versions from Generations is a lot thinner than the standard Geordi's. Is this the case for everyone’s? Was his VISOR smaller in the film? I'll have a check after I've posted this.

Does the Medical diagnostic device that comes with the Wave 2 Dr Crusher figure ever appear on screen? Likewise, does the medical devices with the Doc and Kes from Voyager appear on screen?

Thanks

Hey bud,

One of the medical tools included with Kes/The Doctor was actually referred to on screen as a Thoron Generator.

It's featured in the season 3 Voyager Episode "Basics Part II"

Check out a not-so-great picture here at memory alpha

http://en.memory-alp...horon_generator

Maybe this article will help - I recognise the sample extractor from Dax in Duty Uniform

http://en.memory-alp...d_medical_tools

As for Dukat's...errr...box thingy - I always thought it was a PADD of some sort.

I always thought of it as a Cardassian PADD/remote control (not so much a tricorder).

Jpatrik: Good call on the medical equipment!

As to Geordi's visor: I don't think there was any difference between the tv filming version and the movie filming version. I think it was just PM trying to make accessory less bulky and more screen accurate. It's similar in dimension with the later figures (i.e. the SF Academy).

Thank you for that, I've seen Basics parts 1 and 2 about 10 times, its one of my favourite early season episodes (finally get to see the Kazon go) and I was going to make my own Thoron Generator for my Holographic Doc. Well that saves me some time. That article about the unnamed medical tools is fantastic, a great find, I think I might make a few of those for my medical team.

I always thought of it as a Cardassian PADD/remote control (not so much a tricorder).

Thanks about Geordi, I have all but the AGT, cadet, and the See-Through Alien version, I can see what you mean about the Visor being more accurate, but I don't know about you but I think the original looks the best. It looks more bulky, he can hold it properly, it fits into his optical scanner better and it isn’t as flimsy. It also seems strange that they included the old mould with the transporter version, one of if not the last Geordi to be made.

Here's a few screen shots from Generations:

http://movies.trekco...tionshd0671.jpg

http://movies.trekco...tionshd0958.jpg

http://movies.trekco...tionshd0955.jpg

As for Dukat's Box, these shots where the closest to his accessory that I could find, particularly as its called a control box:

http://tng.trekcore....dparttwo154.jpg

http://tng.trekcore....dparttwo339.jpg

http://tng.trekcore....dparttwo406.jpg

http://tng.trekcore....dparttwo409.jpg

This is what a Cardassian Tricorder looks like (sorry about the bad picture, its in his right hand):

http://ds9.trekcore....cretion_178.jpg

Its either straight from the minds of Playmates, based on some bad screen shots of Chain Of Command, or its an obscure prop from the first few seasons of DS9. I think for the moment I'll use it as a Tricorder, as my Cardassian troops have their Phasers, built in communicators and rifles.

Now a few more questions:

O'Brien's Fire Extinguisher, am I right in thinking it's supposed to be this?

http://ds9.trekcore....tfandgr_304.jpg

http://ds9.trekcore....tfandgr_306.jpg

Generations Data, DS9 Tom Riker and few others had a hand held device with a Cardassian looking graphic and the Device itself looks Cardassian in origin. Any ideas on what it is?

The "Light Stick" that comes with practically every TNGer (Soran, Red Data, Scotty, Inaccurate uniformed Riker), any idea on where it comes from?

Talking of the Inaccurate Riker from the Generations line, where does his "Scanner" come from? I know it comes with AGT Picard, and that it appears in The Masterpiece Society (Cue screen shots):

http://tng.trekcore....esociety188.jpg

http://tng.trekcore....esociety189.jpg

Any ideas on its origin, the race that uses it, and its purpose?

And lastly, any idea on where the engineering tools come from that came with Geordi, and a few other figures (Long spanner, laser Drill, and "Warp Core Scanner" as Carey's box describes it)?

Hey dude,

The fire extinguisher - you're close - but the exact one that comes with the O'Brien action figure is seen in the first season DS9 episode "Q-Less" in one of the opening scenes.  Sisko and Kira are at the airlock and trying to get the runabout doors open.  Look closely. (sorry, I cant seem to find a picture online - it's a very brief appearance)

I have often wondered about that scanner as it seems to make a number of appearances with the playmates figures - so too with the series.  I know I have seen it a number of times, most notable in "Gambit" when Picard is pretending to be a space pirate.

Come to think of it - I dunno where those light sticks come from!

Is the "light stick" the device that Data uses to locate Geordi when he turns into the Tarchannen alien?

Tuvok, youre thinking of what Memory Alpha calls an 'emergency beacon'

http://en.memory-alp...mergency_beacon

...which incidentally came with TNG Series 1 and Series 2 Riker and called a 'directional UV source'

Right, I'm back! With some answers and a question.

Thanks for the help as always Jpatrik!

First of, Dukat's control box does appear in either season 1 or 2 of DS9, I can't for the life of me remember what episode but I know for almost a certainty it appears. And it does get used as device to control some equipment, and looked near identical to Gul Madred's.

The light stick, I may have found it:

http://voy.trekcore....hoverme_254.jpg

http://voy.trekcore....hoverme_261.jpg

Another one of those engineering tools pops up in Birthright part 1:

http://tng.trekcore....tpartone147.jpg

Jpatrik, your 100% correct. After some research, the PADD appears as a fake fingerprinter in "The most toys":

http://tng.trekcore....mosttoys008.jpg

"The masterpiece society" as mentioned and shown in a previous post, "Frame of Mind" as a PADD:

http://tng.trekcore....meofmind087.jpg

And Galen's PADD in "Gambit":

http://tng.trekcore....tpartone351.jpg

(best screenshot I could find at the moment)

There's probably more that I haven't found, but it does indeed appear to be a "alien equipment of the week" prop.

Thanks for all the help!

So my next question is, the cargo pallet that comes with the Goddard, is that from an episode?

Redshirt - you are indeed one eagle eyed viewer!

Funnily enough, I caught sight of that weird lookin' PADD last night while watching Frame Of Mind on blu-ray - Beverly Crusher has it when she comes to visit Riker in the insane asylum!  Strangely - I thought of this thread.

The shuttle cargo?  If I were to venture a guess I would say its something playmates made up entirely (as they often did to mixed results).  I suppose if you wanted to do some research on it, think about when these toys were designed.

The Goddard came out with the first wave of figures and the electronic Enterprise D in 1992 (during season 5 of TNG).  By that logic I suppose we could deduce that any playmates designs must have been based on episodes between season 1 and 4 (depending upon what resources paramount supplied them with)

Just a thought...great questions though bud :-)

Haha, I try!

Frame Of Mind's one of my favourites, Frakes acting is superb. Till recently I'd forgot Data turned up in one of those stealth suits Picard, Worf, and Crusher have been in, albeit in one of Riker's hallucinations.

I'd agree, I was just a bit curious though. I hadn't thought about that, fantastic idea! From memory, you get a good look at the cargo bays/shuttlebays in Times Squared, Hollow Pursuits, The Hunted, Disaster, Power Play, Ethics, Relics, Genesis and All Good Things, though I'm 100% there are a lot more. The last six are post season 4, so I'll start my search chronologically, but from memory, I don't remember seeing anything remotely like it.

Thanks for the help as always!
