Well, I got my E in the mail on Saturday (thanks Sybeck!) and was immediately struck by how wimpy the lights were compared to the D. I will definitely be trying out the mods mentioned in this thread. While I was thinking about it Saturday night, I remembered suddenly that I have some material from a couple years ago when I was working on a custom lightsaber. I got the last bit of stuff I wanted for it, but never used it, and have in fact been thinking of selling it all off. but one bit jumped out at me as really useful for the nacelles.

Is anyone here familiar with Electro-Luminescent wire? I have a couple feet of blue EL wire, which seems like the perfect way to light up the nacelle. It's been a really long time since I looked at the stuff, I don't know what the circuit would need to be, or if it's even feasible or not, but it seems likely.

It's been a couple of years since I've been to the store/forums, but TheCustomSaberShop.com has a lot of great info and supplies for building your own custom EL or LED lightsaber, including circuit diagrams and helpful, knowledgeable people who could answer any questions about the use of EL wire. I may have to jump on there again someday.

From this youtube video, , EL wire looks definitely suitable for lighting up the nacelle completely and more evenly than with bulbs. The LED diagram posted above is an accurate configuration for you to follow. Good luck!

P.S. I was looking at custom sabers too for a while but I just went with the official Hasbro ForceFX Luke Skywalker one due to the mind boggling difficulty :X

Awesome, thanks, I'll have to try that someday too.

As for the custom saber, i dont' think it's too hard, well, if you just want lights. If you want to add a sound card then that makes it a bit harder. But seriously, lots of help at the TCSS boards. But the FX's are really cool - I had three or four, but have since sold them all except the ROTS Anakin because it was the first I bought, and because the one I liked the most I could sell for the highest (modded Darth Maul with removable blades = win). I'd like to get the Dooku or TMP Obi-Wan someday.

Just a thought on the unpainted windows. I have an E on the way and I was planning on using an acrylic paint to fill in the windows. Since the windows are molded in, you can use a damp cloth to remove any excess paint and hopefully end up with a nice clean job.

Its very tricky to get that right. Your better off getting a sharp hard lead pencil and coloring them in.

I don't know the size of the ship as I don't have one but on my amt/ertl model of the "E" I used a very fine tip sharpie in black and a white veryfine tip paint marker and it worked great.

I used a sharp lead pencil and I worked on it over the course of a few days . After I double checked everything it wound up looking pretty good , you may want to shine a small pocket flashlight over the surface of the hull so you don't miss any windows , I've found one or two I missed days later .

Here is my mod..... A friend of mine did the upgrades for me.... He added two blue LEDS for each angine and converted all the bulbs to LEDs...He also painted the entire inside of the ship black to stop light bleed and painted on the details for the pylons. It looks AWESOME !!!

The pictures were taken in the sunlight outside so its hard to see the lights :-( ...I'll take some better pics soon !

Prometheus, those pylons look awesome!  I am thinking of doing something similar.  Do you, or does anyone know what brand of paint, and which color SKU they are?  The color match is almost bang on.

Justin

The grays were mixed to match then airbrushed on...so there really isnt a paint number. Sorry about that.
